The Dark One's Problem Thread: Freezing

The Dark One

Recommended Posts

I just downloaded The Dark Mod (10/10 would dark again) and I'm running into two persistent bugs. One is annoying, the other is game breaking.

1. This bug is signaled by buggy character models, and more or less prevents me from quick saving or finishing a mission. This has been here since the beginning.

2. This one is far more annoying. After trying to download a mission (The Rift) the game has been freezing on me, and I almost always have to restart my computer. I tried uninstalling it, but nope. It seems to happen randomly.

Help?

P.S. I admit, I'm mildly afraid I may have flat-out installed the thing wrong. But both the TM and St. Lucia worked perfectly fine, except for the first glitch.

EDIT : The forum glitched while posting this, and I seem to have three copies of this. ~_~ Apologies.

Because in mystery novels, the first suspect is almost certainly never the murderer. No matter how much unmovable evidence there is, it will all be smashed in pieces by the wrath of the remaining number of pages of the story.

We need more information about the bugs.

  • Please download a other mission. Then try to run it.
  • If this works uninstall the rift manually and download it again.
This by deleting the rift mission-folder the fm-folder.
And delete registrations for this mission in the missions.tdminfo-file in the fm-folder, using notepad.
  • Download the rift mission again. And check it

I also advice you to check your connection to the internet.

To avoid several beginner-problems, you can install TDM using my installer (and using the standard install options).

We would like to see the content of your tdm.log, after a crash.

There's an animation bug with card players that will crash the game when you try to quick save during it, and then the save is permanently borked.

It has been fixed with 2.04, which is in beta now, so it'll be out soon. If you really want to play an FM before then, you can always just open a map in DR and delete the card playing.

If this isn't it -- e.g., it happens even for an FM without card players -- maybe make sure when you reinstalled it that you deleted all the files beforehand to make sure there wasn't a rogue file in there.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

Deleted mission, no other issues, thanks!

Ahhhh.

Eh, not a huge deal. Haven't had it happen on other missions, but it's only a mild inconvenience anyway.

So, a bug has returned.

As I said in my first post, I was having a issue with the game freezing/crashing entirely, forcing me to completely reset my computer. I thought it was something wrong with the mission I downloaded, but it's starting up again, even after that mission was deleted, and after the 2.04 update. Obviously, I'm not sure how to go about fixing it. Help?

Whitch operating system are you run tdm on?
What are your system specifications. (And in particulary your videocard)
What is been registrated during the crash in, eventlogs (Windows), /var/log
(linux), etc?

Windows - Disable automatic restart when system crash & crashdumsettings, for creating dump logs.

Windows 8.1

I need a few more specifics on the video card thing, I'm not sure what you want in particular. I'm not sure what's useful and what's fluff. It's an Intel® HD thing, for what it's worth. Other specifications, again, more details.

I did find an event log, though I'm not sure how helpful it would be. The only thing it really says is that the application is, "faulting." The application name and the module.

Apologies if this isn't useful. :

We/I need info about that event.

Please follow the following steps, get info and post them.

  1. Disable restart on system crash (see first post)
  2. Freeze your system with tdm.
  3. note the time
  4. restart your system.
  5. See if there is a tdm.log in your folder with there are registrations on the crash time, post them here in a spoiler-tag.
  6. Open bsod viewer and find a registration on the crash time. If you find one, post them here in the topic, using the spoiler-tag
  7. Go to eventlogs. (select category "system" and "application")

see if there are crashes or other registrations at the time of the crash.

Right click on one of them, copy > copy details. And post them in here in a spoiler-tag.

I think it was resolved, something with an expired with an outdated graphics card/driver. Bikerdude fixed it, probably. :P

Still, thanks Freyk, have to remember that next time I have an issue.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
