Firing particles once

Isn't there a spawnarg that causes a func_emitter to fire a particle only once?

I'm trying to get a single spark effect to trigger, but it keeps repeating, and I can't remember what tells it not to cycle.

This depends on the particle. Some particles have an unlimited amount of cycles. You can check that by using the particle editor. If cycles is set to zero, the particle will cycle forever. If you want a one-shot particle version, create a copy of the particle in question and set cycles to one.

Looks like I was using the wrong tool for the job.  func_fx is what you use when you want a burst of light/sound/particles.

Right on. I had a similar question before regarding water arrow FX. I kept getting two splash cycles when I only wanted one.

I don't think I ever fixed the issue, but when I get back to it, I can try the func_fx type of thing, and/or look into what Obsttorte replied with in my old post, "The number of cycles is defined in the particle file," and also taking his words above into consideration
