  1. Just to get the technical part out of the way I remembered it's possible to add non-steam games to steam. So I did that and it worked perfectly, the Steam overlay works, takes screenshots just fine, I can launch TDM from steam, the whole thing works. Huge images: So that's nice
  2. Now onwards to figure out which missions I didn't play. So far all I tried I have played before :P

That's the intelligent way of doing it!

You could play all of them over again, many have seen updates and additions, and there are the campaign-inna-box missions coming out again.

  3. I'm getting a 'spore' vibe from this. In the bad sense. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE space exploration but it does seem a bit utopic with current technology. Every attempt so far proved procedural generation to be repetitive and uninteresting after a short while. You may have a trillion stars to visit but you won't feel like there's anything you haven't seen yet.

    Thief 4

I don't know if we're ever going to see another interesting Thief, honestly. This IP is owned by Eidos and they're not letting it go, and they are also definitely not going to make a game that goes against every game design trend that sells games nowadays, which is what a worthy sequel requires. Can you imagine pitching the idea to someone about to give you 50 million dollars? "hey, so, yeah, there won't be any open world stuff, I know that's all the rage right now but still. No RPG elements as well, sorry. Oh, by the way, the graphics will be slightly worse than the current gen games, because we have to make some compromises in order to make larger maps. I would like my 50 mil in 10 and 20 dollar bills, please."

    Thief 4

I'm late to the public stoning- I mean, party- but I finally got to play this game. My expectation was low, I thought it would be like deadly shadows, kinda fun if you forget all about T1 and 2. It didn't even meet these already low expectations A lot has been said already, the broken story and linearity, so there's not much left to kick. One thing I didn't hear about yet is the upgrade system. Sounds cool in theory, definitely works in a game like Deus Ex, but in Thief it breaks the game completely. Stealth level design is incredibly finicky. Take a fully working level and rotate a guard, now the level is impossible. Upgrade system makes the level designer's life hell in Thief, how can you tell if that lock is too difficult for that corridor with a patrolling guard if you don't know how fast he is picking locks? How can you tell if that section with guards is too difficult if you don't know if the player has the upgrade that makes him quieter? The fact that the levels are extremely linear accentuates the problem.
  6. Is there any technical thing to be aware of? Does the code have to be messed with in any way? If it's just a matter of submitting the same zip file we download from TDM website then I don't see why not either. I've seen at least a couple of people willing to manage that and the 100 dollar fee submission is not a problem. However, something tells me it's not as simple as that.
  7. I'm pretty happy with the standard controls on this version I'm playing. It uses mouse to look (no up and down of course) and wasd works like modern games. The auto aim is useful. No doubt this has been worked for this release, the original was made to play with arrow keys and ctrl etc
  8. I have a gaming pc again! Finally be able to play TDM again :) there's a bunch of new missions

But first I have to finish Dark Forces... on MAX GRAPHICAL SETTINGS.

  9. I don't think their kickstarter's gonna make it
  10. This has to be the longest I waited to play a game. Around 1995 I played a demo of Dark Forces that came with Full Throttle and thought "this was kinda fun, I wanna play that one day". So now I got it on the star wars humble bundle and it's indeed kinda fun. Only took me 20 years.
  11. Early access games are complicated. I had a fantastic experience with Kerbal Space Program but I have the impression KSP is the exception to the rule. Every other early access I bought was a disappointment. I would wait (I am waiting, actually, this game looks cool)
  12. What a timing. I'm about to finally buy a gaming pc and this graphics card was on my wish list. What do you guys suggest doing now?
  13. Besiege looks interesting! I don't like the trailer very much though, it uses one of my favorite songs ever and it just steals the spotlight from the game lol.
  14. Fear can be generated in a number of ways. Showing a deformed humanoid (which includes zombies and monsters in general) is the cheapest form of horror, it's what children fear usually. I'm not knowledgeable on this stuff to give fancy counter examples, I've never experienced a game that made me fear more abstract things like loneliness, the unknown, doing your tax etc but it should be possible. I've felt a low level of anxiety that could be classified as mild fear in games about exploring dark dungeons. You can't see much, can't hear anything but have to press forward. Actually, I just remember getting exactly that feeling from a very cartoony and cute game! Outer Wilds (still in development), it's a space exploration game and there's a planet that is basically just dense fog populated by gigantic scary fish. So you're slowly moving through the fog when something that fills the entire screen starts to break through the fog in your direction. It's pretty awesome.
  15. My brief experience with UDK and Cryengine made me hate both forever.
  16. Awesome! congratulations Any chance of this being a step to the game industry as a mapper?
  17. That Wolfenstein is fun I was once an experienced free games scavenger but it's been a while since I played any free games, good or otherwise. Gamejolt is a good source but there's a lot of garbage to dig through. If you want a small level of curation I recommend jayisgames.com
  18. Crap, that video made me tear up laughing.
  19. I don't wanna be a doctor anymore! this phd thing is too hard

This kind of thing seems to vary with discipline and location. I did a UK philosophy PhD, and while I sort of recognise the scenarios in Piled Higher and Deeper, my stint was actually quite relaxed.

Keep at it, Diego. You'll either succeed or fail, but to just give up is the only way to lose here. If you fail, you at least did your best, and may be able to resit part of it, giving up means you probably won't try again.

  20. The hair dryer thing blew my mind. What sorcery was that?
  21. I love this throne room without music video! it's the funniest thing. Lord, is it awkward! seems it takes forever and it's only 2 minutes. The ET scene still retains some value though, less powerful but it's not ridiculous.
  22. Ooh, that Batman trailer looks nice. Then again so did Arkham Origins' trailer, which I didn't like. These people mastered the art of making trailer better than the art of making games in some cases lol.
  23. Really cool! Not sure what can be done with this though. I know that's just a prototype but USB charger and speakers are not very exciting modules, what else could be done with this?
