  1. Looks interesting, downloading now. But... I find this hard to believe.
  2. I enjoy emergent gameplay so will occasionally replay missions hoping to experience something different. I usually reserve replays for missions that I thoroughly enjoyed the first time around though.
  3. Brilliant, this is working and TDM plays flawlessly! I did have to change permissions to get this to work as I was getting an error when installing FMs (check for permissions and disk space), and the missions.tdminfo file was created in "darkmod ls/fms/" rather than "darkmod/fms" so I copied this to the expected folder as well (not sure if this made a difference). I'll continue testing and add bugs to the bugtracker if I find any, but so far everything looks good.
  4. That's the rest of my night booked up then. Thanks Melan and Bikerdude!
  5. I should have paid attention to the error log, it was picking up the DLL from the Doom3 base folder (see attached). I think the new pk4 is corrupt as I tried renaming it to Zip and couldn't open it (unlike the earlier pk4 which I could extract the contents from). Tried re-downloading using a different browser and same thing, so it's probably the copy on the server that's corrupt. initerror.txt
  6. Thanks. Progress... I think. Now getting the following error at the end of initialisation: Initializing scripts WARNING: Non-portable: path contains uppercase characters: darkmod/Users/scott/Library/Application Support/Doom 3/darkmod/script/script WARNING: Non-portable: path contains uppercase characters: base/Users/scott/Library/Application Support/Doom 3/darkmod/script/script WARNING: Non-portable: path contains uppercase characters: darkmod/Users/scott/Library/Application Support/Doom 3/darkmod/script/script WARNING: Non-portable: path contains uppercase characters: base/Users/scott/Library/Application Support/Doom 3/darkmod/script/script WARNING: Non-portable: path contains uppercase characters: darkmod/Users/scott/Library/Application Support/Doom 3/darkmod/script/script WARNING: Non-portable: path contains uppercase characters: base/Users/scott/Library/Application Support/Doom 3/darkmod/script/script TODO: Sys_SetClipboardData --------- Game Map Shutdown ------------------------------------------------******************** ERROR: Error: file tdm_base01.pk4/script/doom_events.script, line 1006: Unknown event 'moveToCoverFrom' ******************** Sys_Error: Error during initialization
  7. Yes, I have 1.04 installed but the build appears to be 1.05 (error log reports "The Dark Mod 1.05, code revision 4636"). Greebo, is there a 1.04 binary I could try?
  8. Thanks for the files, unfortunately I've not managed to get this to work yet. I've copied my "Doom 3" folder to /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/ and can run Doom3 by double clicking the "Doom 3.app" container. I can then choose TDM as a mod and this starts to load (displays the very first loading graphic) but quits unexpectedly. No log file was created in Logs/ (I've changed permissions so there shouldn't be any problem with this). I also tried using the console to run the "Doom 3" executable directly from "Doom 3.app/Contents/MacOS/Doom 3" with +set fs_game darkmod and this has the same result. On the plus side I then get errors printed to the console (see attached). I've tried running tdmlauncher.macosx from the console, but this seems to be hardcoded to use /usr/local/games/ and when I copied the game folder to that location it wouldn't run due to permissions errors. I'll have another go at using this in case it's something simple (though the permissions looked okay when I tried this earlier). initerror.txt
  9. Not sure I'll be able to make good use of the available time, but please add my name to the list of 'maybe' entrants.

    TDM Combat

Why would you want to do that if an author could instead just decide not to include the sword for increased difficulty? Unless you were joking... I can never tell! I think the combat difficulty is mostly fine, maybe a little too easy to land a killing blow to the head (edit: even on hardest difficulty BTW). The main change to combat I'd like to see is additional parry animations for the enemy rather than just standing there or charging during a fight, but I know animators are hard to find so this will be the last time I mention it, honest!

    TDM Combat

It's possible with a swipe if you hit them in the head. Still, I wouldn't say the combat is easy, especially if you're up against more than one guard.
  12. Isn't the grammatically correct form "Tels' whatyamacallit"? Anyway, I would think something like "Tels' Particle Pack" would be more suitable since all the enhancements make use of particles. Or for those fond of alliteration, "Tels' Progressive Projectile Particle Pack".
  13. Hmmm, you know blood stains appear under UV light, so even mopping up visible blood with water arrows wouldn't be enough. To restore balance to counter this new added difficulty you would also need our thief to have an arsenal of industrial strength cleaning fluids at his disposal. Ahem, back on topic. Sounds like a really cool mod Tels, I look forward to trying this out.
  14. No, this is Aprilsister. YouTube is the font of all knowledge in the modern age.
  15. I use W7 at work, and although it's MUCH better than Vista, I'm still annoyed at UAC appearing far too often. Even if I right click an EXE and choose Run as Administrator I still get a UAC warning. So what you're saying is that W7 is like the Swiss?
  16. Ooh, this is good news! Well let me know if you need any testers while issues are ironed out, though as I say my time is a little limited at the moment.
  17. I wouldn't say this is well in hand. I did manage to get TDM compiled, but had problems with library dependencies. I was using the MacPorts distribution platform to install all the required dependencies, but these were setup to compile for 64 bit. Although there's a setting in MacPorts to compile for x86, it doesn't look like all the libraries were tested for this option as I received errors when I tried this. I haven't pursued this further since then, and won't get a chance to really focus on this for at least 2 months due to RL issues, so if someone from Doom3World is able to try this, by all means see if they're interested. I am curious how many TDM players are interested in a OSX version. It would certainly be a nice update for moddb.
  18. A couple years back a family member bought a brand new laptop that was pre-installed with Vista and had a "Vista Ready" sticker on it. It was ready for Vista all right, first time it booted up it Blue-screened and crashed. My own main PC I built myself and made sure it was twice the recommended specs for Vista so I wouldn't have the same problems. I managed to keep Vista on there for about a year, suffering random restarts and major performance issues, before giving up and reinstalling Windows XP which hasn't given me any problems since re-installing. I've got enough computers that I plan to install Ubuntu on one of them and will be running OSX, Windows XP and Linux (hopefully with TDM running on all of them ).
  19. Just a quick idea for a future contest. Not sure if this has been suggested already. Take the training mission map as a base and turn it into a proper FM. You could add anything you want to it, or remove whatever seems un-necessary. Obvious downside is that you might get tired of seeing similar architecture in each entry, and it might also be a bit jarring to go from one mission where you expect door x to lead to y and the next mission door x leads to z. Heh, the more I write the less of a good idea this seems, but I still think it would be interesting from a mappers pov, though if there were interest in a contest like this it would probably be best to wait until TDM is more established. It would be best if early contests were aimed at bringing about as much variety in visuals and gameplay as possible.

TDM: Makers of fine doors. Can't argue there.
  21. You obviously have a very good eye for what looks good, so I don't think you need to spend too much time looking for approval from others on the visuals side of things. However... I personally prefer the first screen of the cellar because the individual stones that you used in the later screen are very raised, which don't seem very suited to an interior scene and look a bit too weathered (i.e. from real weather: rain, wind, desiccation). They'd be perfect for an outdoor scene IMHO, but look out of place inside. Loving the screens so far BTW, especially the city architecture.
  22. Har, har. Hmm, let me have a go... LOL I bet he did. Blackjack jokes never get old.
  23. I'm glad to hear that a female maid is being considered, a maid character would complement some of the peasant-like male characters we already have. You've probably got enough resource images, but here's a couple I found that might offer some useful design tips: Maid Medieval clothes shop I agree that female guards aren't very well suited to a universe based on our own and set at least 2 centuries in the past, not that I minded them in T2 but I seem to recall some people did. If the female maid character is easy enough to customise with new skins, then I assume there's no reason mission authors couldn't create whole new classes (such as a female priestess cult, a la minoan religion).
  24. I was reluctant to vote snow, but I gave in as I feel designers would be forced to be creative because of (rather than in spite of) how easy it might be to slap some snow into any old FM. You'd want the FM to stand out somehow, so couldn't rely on the theme to do this. For example, I could imagine a Shackleton-esque story about a ship carrying gold getting stuck in a frozen sea during a harsh winter. You decide to risk the cold to plunder the ship, whilst avoiding the crew who aren't about to leave all that gold lying around. I had another idea for a contest that might produce some interesting results. A countdown contest, where every mission must be completed within say, 30 minutes, else it's a mission failure. It's up to the designer to come up with a story as to why this is the case (is someone about to be hanged in the town square?). Keeping the time relatively short as with 30 min would be perfect for ensuring designers don't embark on anything overly ambitious, and during contest time with all the FMs that are released in one go, shorter FMs wouldn't be a bad thing.
  25. Reading from another file is done using a server scripting language such as ASP, PHP or Perl, which obviously requires that the server hosting your page supports this. Now it may be possible to include Javascript within a HTML page utilising AJAX which gets the contents of another file (such as a XML file) and reads in the value you want, so if you don't have access to a scripting language then this might be a suitable solution for you. Edit: Here's an example / tutorial for using Ajax to do this.
