After an absence of many moons, I will be working on my maps again. The latest DR compiled properly and I can finally get back into mapping.

New CPU is 2-core Pentium 3.2GHz cheapo... but it clocked to 4.3GHz without complaining. My system booted with no issues on the first try after moving my drives and gpu to new case, mobo, cpu, ram, and psu. Lots of games to test, but Unigine Valley tested rather nicely in ultra quality, as did lotro.

Yes. The Courier, name rhymes with EdFex, did cover the damage (approx $1500). Even after spending an additional $220 to get it up and running, I think I still did alright. I am a bit disappointed with the dead ssd driver, but am looking more forward to getting an m.2 module, which the new mobo fully supports

Yeah. The eBay buyer received a damaged box. The nzxt case was fractured in several places. The cpu heatsink had sheared off the board, knocking out 2 polymer capacitors, which resulted in the fried cpu (and fried Samsung SSD too). At least the RAM modules, gf780,27" LED monitor, WDC 1TB black, and PSU were all good.

Yeah, it turned out to be fried. The original owner tried to run it after getting it back from the ebay buyer (after carrier had dropped the box).
So, to tide me over for a while, I got a cheap CPU. But it is working quite nicely so I'm not in a giant rush to replace the i7. Though I might do so after taxes are done...maybe

New mobo just arrived. MSI Z97 Gaming 3. If the used CPU (i7 4770) and RAM (32G 1600MHz) are good, this is going to be one interesting night. I have an SSD drive and an 1TB WDC Black drive are waiting in the wings as well. GeForce GTX 780 is already working, but currently on 5 year old hardware. Tonight all that changes. Fingers Crossed. I'm Going In.

Was set back a bit... The i7 CPU had been burnt (I bought someone's damaged gaming rig). I spent the other night troubleshooting the psu, case, mobo, RAM, heatsink and CPU. The CPU had been fried by by being turned on in the old damaged motherboard. Got a cheapie dual-core pentium on the way to tide me over until I can spend $$$ on an i7.

just got a call from the tech support scammers. I acted as if I was doing what they wanted, but I occasionally acted pissed because "my computer spontaneously turned off". Then they waited with me as I "started it" again.

Using a BSOD reader I get results in all directions, so does anyone have experience with hal.dll BSODs?

If you wanted to do cycles-3D rendering on your laptop, but it got to over 90 degrees C and you didn't have a cooling pad, how would YOU solve the problem? (answer below!)
