  1. Well, as you can kill people in all ways imaginable, maybe it's not really best suited for kids... i mean, not that they will not play it anyway, but if you'd want to set up an age rating, it should best be 18+. Though i always wonder how harshly games are rated compared to movies. In the first scene of Saving Private Ryan (rated 16+) you see people being torn to pieces and body parts are flying around, yet something like Call of Duty is rated 18+, the blood has been cut, and in germany, all Nazi symbolic is censored from the game. Weird weird. More and more they realize though that it's not more harmful than films, nor is it the reason why students go on rampage, because they played Counterstrike like millions of others. Maybe they more and more realize the commercial potential of games and the influence of too much censorship on sales too, dunno. Probably both.
  2. Hey Biker. Thanks for the list and your work, even though i can't confirm most of the points you mentioned in your post... be aware that it probably highly depends on your system and hardware drivers, or general setup if you witness those bugs or not. I neither have the right click & manage on "This PC" thing, nor do i have a slow or unresponsive system, nor do i have a problem with internet browsing with set firewall rules. So you can't really say those are general things which apply to everyone. Never had Windows Defender running though, as i have my own antivirus, but then, many people have an external antivirus solution.
  3. They never worked for me either tbh.
  4. Indeed, NOLF 3 would be great. Shame that it doesn't seem like it was a big success, at least part 2. But then with more stealth options, and a bit more modern gameplay. But no action watered crap like the Splinter Cell series is now... a bit more dedication to the stealth nature of the game would be very welcomed. Thought NOLF of course always was a bit more on the action side than Splinter Cell. Btw, talking about stealth games, i'm sure most of you are aware, but Return to Castle Wolfenstein is a blast if you play it in stealth mode (which surprisingly you can do in most, or all levels). So much better not to alert half the level when you shoot around with non silenced weapons. Was really nice to play, even after all these years, it's just so damn short.
  5. How is that different? It's all Science Fiction. And especially ST has some really weird fantasy stuff in it, just because it scraps the scientific surface doesn't mean it bows down to any kind of realism. Well i guess it's a matter of taste. Games or films doesn't have to be 100 % logic or realistic for me, as long as the story is told well, and it achieves a "in it" feeling.
  6. So Thief with all its magic stuff, the level of technology in a middle age world, and the protagonist having a mechanic eye, but still using a blackjack, sword or bow makes more sense to you?
  7. I never even noticed tbh. Maybe people who design games, or create maps have more sense for that. But then, a game doesn't have to be 100% realistic for me, but primarily play- and enjoyable. If i want realism, i go outside and observe the world. And even then at least half of the things i see won't make sense.
  8. Well, if the alternative paths wouldn't be at least a bit obvious nobody would find them...
  9. I had a hard time just getting into the X games (played part 1, 2 and 3). They're sorta like "i push the player into the water and see if he can swim". Nothing really explained, no tutorials or anything. Yes, you learn a lot in the game, but frankly, especially part 3 is so complex with all those menus (did i say the small font in the menus, and the complexity of those suck?) that there should at least be a proper tutorial. Or a hint "how to play the game". They were always fascinating for me, but i never really got into one of them. Which is a shame, because i bet they're not bad at all. Just bad to get into.
  10. Looks great. Actually how i would want the X series to be.
  11. Yeah, atmosphere wise it was definitely good. But meh... i get claustrophobia in those levels...
  12. It's true that the age shows a bit, graphics or gameplay wise. But i just love the atmosphere of it. Deus Ex: HR is different in that regard, but pretty good too. Guess you'll have to put it in perspective, at the time it was released (i played it years later) it probably was more than amazing. Btw, i'd have been much happier with the Revision if they did it in another, more modern engine. Would have been more work, yes, but i would guess it's already been a lot of work to do the Revision, and modify the existing engine. Why not just use the Source engine, or something else, to create it.
  13. Don't mind the graphics. One of the best (if not the best) games of all times.
  14. Hm, interesting news update: Almost sounds to me as if they're incorporating with Square Enix now, and plan to release DX-Revision on Steam or something. Like semi-official. Especially the "Time line partially out of our control" thing hints to something like that. Whatever it is, i hope they release soon. Really curious about it.
  15. Let's hope that is really true, and that it'll be released soon. Good stuff. Note he big "Revision", and www.dx-revision.com btw. No "Deus Ex" at all.
  16. Or the thing gets implemented like this: AI sees the players shadow, stops its guarding routine (if any), wonders "What's that?", turns around, sees the player (unless you hid in time), then draws his weapon and attacks if player is visible. But true, you got to have full knowledge of where the light sources are at all times, and with a couple of light sources, and the need to figure out which shines more bright, or which is nearest this can get damn hard, not to count the multiple shadows with multiple light sources then. Nonetheless, as you said, a fully working shadow would a nice thing to have.
  17. It actually adds a lot to the atmosphere. I always found it a bit weird to see AI shadows, but not the players one in the game which doesn't have it. Btw, i could have sworn that in Splinter Cell Chaos Theory the AI sometimes actually reacts to seeing the players shadow. Not entirely sure if that's the case, but i sometimes wondered why i got noticed when sneaking up from behind. Didn't always happen though, so i'm not 100% sure if it's true.
  18. Alright. Maybe i'll try to activate it then just for fun. Is the option accessible through the game menus, or is it a console command?
  19. I know this has been asked and answered elsewhere already, but i forgot the outcome actually. Will it be possible in future versions of TDM to display the shadow of the protagonist? I remember that someone said that the protagonist doesn't have a full play model or so and therefor it would be impossible to display the shadow. Not sure if this is possible in any way, but when displaying the shadow of the player, there also would be an option that AI gets alerted when the shadow falls somewhere they can see it and stuff like that, and it would open up a whole new possibility gameplay wise.
  20. All true, but! It's Deus Ex. And the world looks delicious.
  21. Yeah, seems pretty overpowered. If it has the same skill tree as HR, you probably get those powers later in the game though. But still, very powerful stuff.
  22. Yeah, not a big fan of those extensive and excessive intro sequences either, was already like that in HR. It also looks like you get quite powerful skills which probably makes the gameplay a bit casual, but you also got pretty powerful in HR after like 1/3 of the game already. Guess it has to be nowadays. Anyway, i also love the look and feel of the world.
  23. Only watched 7 minutes of that vid, but already loving it.
