  1. Short answer: It doesn't. Longer answer: I mean it's a game where you shoot stuff. Other than that, it doesn't feel like stalker or metro. Even remotely. It's more light-hearted and cartoony too, so it definitely doesn't have the same atmosphere. Regarding Doom4, however. I try not to get excited, I can't expect it to be anything short of an iD FPS, meaning it will be like RAGE was... Could be different. Odds are against. Not that I mind, I liked RAGE. But I'd much rather see a new Quake instead of a new Doom, seeing as how the original Doom idea doesn't hold up these days.
  2. Yep. I, for one, am very interested in seeing what they can do. Frictional Games are super cool dudes. Their games have so far been nothing short of genius. *Excited*
  3. With careful tuning I'm sure you could get softer lighting, but there's a reason why games that use fully dynamic PPL often look like Doom3. You can't get as much needed softness for free with PPL as you would by blurring and filtering texels in a lightmap. Can't you combine the two? Use lightmapping as the primary, then add per pixel lights with shadows in important places (like the rotating fans place)? But I'm guessing that engine just replaces the lighting completely, huh? Edit: In fact I remember that the Dark Places engine with Quake 1 combines PPL with lightmaps. Looks great.

    Epic videos

A ) I can't believe I never saw these before now, they are bloody excellent. Good lord. B ) Further proof that crappy CG in AAA movies is no goddamn excuse EVER when they're strutting around with multimillion dollar budgets.
  5. I concur. It's got a ton of character, too. That's something to value highly. Also, @FenPhoenix: you are hilarious! It's oddly enough exactly "my" kind of humor, so naturally my face is sore from smiling and/or laughing. So great, man. So great. Keep it going for all things that are holy! Edit: Jesus, I have to point it out. My head is throbbing from laughing at this part in your "Return to the City" play-through: "Man, people wear these Wellington gumboots that slap around like fish." It's so incredibly spot-on!
  6. I think it's both interesting and odd at the same time. I can't really grasp how anyone can put out with basically being kind of a jerk all the time, like what's wrong? What makes them do it day in and day out without ever thinking twice? I'm not going to say he was a jerk to me directly (but then again, I didn't interact an awful lot with him ), but there were times I read through some of his posts and thought to myself like: "Where the hell is the off-button on this guy?". I just don't get it. It's fascinating that way...
  7. And so it finally happened. After all these years and after all those tears. It feels... Empty somehow.
  8. Wow what game was just like this? .... Hmmm.... Half Life 2! Soon we'll have underground rebels too fleeing from [rebel] checkpoint to checkpoint dodging the police state as a whole... Oh I hope we can build a portal into Xen too, that would make it all much better. [Also, I'm not serious. I am appalled by this...]
  9. Dang, yes he has a nice way of talking to be honest. It's so constant and he delivers subtle humor every now and then which I find very amusing indeed. Though it's the kind of talking that makes you... sleepy for some reason. Like listening to rolling waves... I have no idea just how creepy that sounds when someone reads it- but yes- It's funny to watch, the commentating is a nice addition and very... involving.
  10. Nice one, Bikerdude! Those are some very cool lines!
  11. Woo, me too! 'Cept my copy cost about 18 - 20 bucks, I forget how much it was exactly. It was a damn steal for me at the time so I bought it then and there. So happy I did too. The only game that absolutely doesn't work under Win 7 64 bit is Thief: Deadly Shadows... It doesn't want to work... (._. )
  12. Wow, Noss. Too cool, man. Too cool.
  13. Yes, I understand. Same thing goes though, either trust someone else on it and trust that they've got it right, or put yourself through the ridiculous thickness of finding out, what will likely be, the same information. My point is that people very rarely have any reason to lie about something like this, especially not when the truth is within reach (anyone can, technically, read it). Also that video is made for- ... prepare for a blown mind.... Lazy people! Besides, if(when?) this crap passes, we'll have front row tickets to the show.
  14. Blade Runner? And yeah, I agree with the idea behind what you said, SeriousToni. History has a tendency to repeat itself regarding the "bad" ideas higher ups come up with. So even if this doesn't pass we're going to see it again at a later date, in a different shape. And what do people usually do when they are uncertain about something (and they care enough)? Research that crap, maaaan.
  15. That there is parallax mapping, though. Something TDM doesn't have (but there are D3 mods to do it). But yes I agree with you; normal mapping is done best in low to mid depth details. Deeper details are exactly why someone came up with parallax mapping. /End nerdy butt-in.
  16. No, they aren't. They are not meant to be used in games. Stick with Blender. Bryce and Daz studio don't come close to it in terms of value in context to games and game engines. And Hexagon, is probably like Milkshape 3D, an OK modeling tool that can be used for games, but again- Not even close to Blender.
  17. Models - No. Terrains rendered into skyboxes (or something similar) - Yes. OH! Except for models made in Hexagon, I guess. It's not as general as the other two are. Well, I might as well explain it too, so it's not to confuse anyone: When I say "general", I mean that the models made with it would have to probably be optimized to be capable of real-time application such as in a game. It would work, but not without significant changes, so the long answer is that, No, a user can't pick up Daz studio, make a model with it and place it in the D3 engine and expect it to be great. Same goes with Bryce. They are, from what I can gather from the site and experience, not geared towards real-time application. But I can of course be wrong. I've been wrong before.
  18. Hmm... That sounds like it could be a possibility. I guess maybe try it out, then. What I meant was we can't realistically use the generated models for anything other than skyboxes, or maybe intro cinematic images?
  19. They're OK software for what they do, but I haven't really heard anything that indicates they can be used in game engines. I would guess they are geared towards off-line rendered images, or movies? Hexagon seems to be kinda like any other 3d suite. That can probably be used for game-driven purposes...
  20. You're forgetting the targets for these are people who simply don't know better. Imagine the newest internet user EVER. The kind of user who believes those shaking "error messages" on some ads saying: "U have 1 new message!". These users are going to make mistakes, they simply don't know any better.
  21. Exactly that occurred to me, too. The "bots" have names that are too consistently unique to be auto-generated. But realistically, what can one do to prevent this? It's kinda like any other "crime" in that it can't be stopped unless it has already happened, thus a "bot" or "spam account" cannot be hindered until it's been put into existence. And then the "damage" has already been done. Block IP ranges? Nope. That can potentially alienate people who accidentally land within that range, happened to me once. Hmm ... ??? And somehow it seems like the status updates are the real target here, I don't see as many spam threads wanting to sell us Viagra or some other drug people apparently can't go without. *shrug* Valid point... There has to be a drawback right? For a good solution there's often a catch.
  22. Haha, Noss. No, man I wasn't being sarcastic, you do fantastic stuff!! I think it's just ridiculously awesome, the colorable feathers was a detail I didn't expect!
  23. Holy crap, man. That is just freaky cool right there. And oh my god- colorable feathers! Is there no end to the awesomeness???
  24. Woah. I like the feather idea, Noss! I think it could add some much needed "chaos" into the design overall to be honest. But you know. Either way, but I'd ask you to try it in-game at least before dismissing it.... Please? Edit: Or you know. "Chaos" in that it adds a little more "random" complexity next to the design of the mask... Dunno, I might be alone in feeling that.
  25. Oooooh right right right. I didn't think of that. *wind between ears*
