  1. If by that you mean feats and skill progression tree I disagree. Roleplay elements are what ruined farcry 3 and dishonored for me.
  2. You can't milk a cashcow that way though. I think Konami broke up team silent, not the team deciding anything.
  3. According to this article they'd basically be getting into an untapped market, so if the law gets passed then they'd be extremely successful. http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/05/28/konami-gambling-japan-idUSL3N0OE18R20140528 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46KYAQItGwE Oh wow Konami DMCA'd a video talking about their relationship with Kojima.
  4. Konami is trying to legalize gambling in Japan, so some people are speculating they're jumping ship from games.
  5. I meant I can hear ambience fine in other maps but not in St. Lucia. That's true, though it stood out because it was nearly entirely absent. It could have just been me though. I was showing it to somoene so wasn't listening to the first half at all really, then saved and went back later to finish the rest of it and noticed it was totally silent inside the church at least.
  6. All I was doing was elaborating on what I felt the missing feeling was, and my example was more aimed towards the "Not really managable in TDM" as just a quick idea of how it could be managed. I also specified in my example of a group making thier own derivative universe so the rules for that could be strict but keeping the main universe free.
  7. I was just playing this earlier after playing cragshaft in the original thief, and I noticed there is a lack of ambience music. Either it's really low in comparison, or just rarely comes up.
  8. In my opinion it's more of an issue of the universe not really present and a lack of consistency at least from my experience. It's more managable than you think. For example, if a group of members wanted to get together and make their own cannon (seperate or a derivative of the main) they could brainstorm ideas such as: -Mapping out the world, even adding places that will be in a future missions. Also evisiting locations in other FM's. -important characters (such as ones who play such a huge role that they paint the whole cannon, for example if the current king or captain of the watch does the "All crimes are punishable by death" thing, or there is any other strict laws. Religious figures that are seen as the mouthpiece of the builder and are mentioned everywhere. etc) -certain layouts that all their missions should follow. They could control whatever was in this cannon to keep the continuity going, for example if someone made something though it didn't follow the lore well enough they could say it's a derivative of the cannon. There could be a download option that downloads all the maps of a certain cannon, and in the new mission it can single out only missions int he cannon you're currently on if you want to play them.
  9. This thread is coming at a convinient time, because I was thinking of making a map based off a doom fortress of solitude I made in minecraft, although I'll probably replace the instant death traps with enemies.
  10. Theres one trick from hammer I remember. Essentially you have a brush that is transparent, but after a certain point it becomes less and less transparent until it's filled in and stops rendering what's behind it. Good for windows, not sure if you could do that here.
  11. Heres what I got so far on the tom cruise mask: Any ideas for a good masquerade mask to base the overlay on? I'm pretty sure there's legal issues related to just copying what he had. Went for phantom of the opera: What do you guys think? I get the feeling like theres too much empty space though it might just be me. 369 tris.
  12. Someone probably said it in this thread already but stalker: shadow of chernobyl. It's sometimes up their with thief when people talk about atmospheric games. Another game I like, for its stealth but is hard as fuck is far cry 2. People tend to not like this game because it's raw as fuck, and sorta throws you out on your own. It's night and day different from the newer ones. Stealth in it's unforgiving as fuck though if you try to go that route, but when you figure it out it's fun.
  13. It wasn't meant ot be serious. For some reason the idea of night vision goggle zombies sounded funny to me.
  14. I always hear of PayPal being up to shady antics, though I don't pay them enough mind to know specifically what.
  15. Theres still brainstorming how it would work hypothetically. Where would it be stored? I see 2 viable options: On the map file somewhere. Having a list on a server somewhere of all the maps and their tags. I think option 2 might be the best in the long run because it allows expansion onto the tags without having to go through each map file and update them if something comes up. How it will look in the client. Would the tags be in a drop down box in each section where you can filter out maps you want? (I think gamebanana had this way back) Would it be like steam tags where you can search certain or multiple tags? Where should the tags be? I personally think they should be out of sight unless you specifically click to see them so it's easy to go into the mission not knowing whats ahead if you like that.
  16. Finished the death mask: It might be cool for a necromancer cult to or lots of things.
  17. I might do that and a variation of the sad face drama mask, but maybe more corpse-like for the masquerade of the red death refference I mentioned earlier. Also the jester mask is done I put a link in the OP. It has a weird texture bug with the hat you might notice in the editor screenshot, but it's not noticable at all in the game screenshots. Halfway through the jester mask I started to think it didn't fit, but then I remembered the trickster, and then saw it in game. It looks pretty sinister. edit: Theres a missing triangle in the back of the jester mask I didn't notice. Does anyone know of a good .ase importer (blend file didn't save) Fixed
  18. Upon exporting the hat it flips the normals making the hat inside out. Does anyone know anything about this?
  19. Multiplayer games. I made this point earlier. Essentially, community driven markets work online because you can show off your asthetics to other people.
  20. Jester mask is almost done, how's it look? I think I might do a refference to poe's masquerade of the read death next.
  21. You're right with reproduction control and I ignored that and went into some more fundamental things that make them different. However, I still feel they're just inherently so different without considering reproduction that the comparison is not valid. I mentioned it's sometimes a luxury, and should have said sometimes subjective. If you have a hole in the side of your house from some random disaster, there is nothing subjective or a luxerious about fixing it. My argument is in the first world everyone needs furniture and building repairs, but not everyone needs games/art/music. I'm fine with all your comparisons except for the carpenter vs artist, and cameraman vs writer one. They just muddy the waters between intellectual property and labor and they're not the same. I'm not even advocating that the system is perfect or even good I just dislike that comparison. The thing that matters at the end of the day is whether or not they can sustain themselves doing it, and if I had to pick a career between carpenter and artist I'd go for carpenter, because I have a lot more faith in not starving with labor. Even with the protections and the 'per use', anything with intellectual property is 100x more risky than just getting a labor job. You can't use the word equal with apples and oranges.
  22. Enviroment: Outdoors, caves/crypt, mansion, city, etc The lack of tags is the dark mods biggest problem for me. Theres no way to know what kind of mission you're getting into other than trying to guess from the name and description, so you're taking a total stab in the dark when it comes to finding a something you want to play, which some people might want to put them on edge, but it was the reason I quit when I first tried the dark mod because I wanted to play exploration mansion/castle/etc missions and kep getting undead or linear levels. That sounds really inconveniant and like a mess for anyone who isn't familiar with the system.
