But HOW has it been patched? directly in the chip firmware or some driver in the OS..?

From what I understand, you'll need a new version of BIOS/UEFI. And that's if the manufacturer of your motherboard feels like providing one. (Just because Intel provides patches doesn't mean that vendors will pass them on.) And BTW: https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/05/05/intel_amt_remote_exploit/
Supposedly this only poses a serious threat to enterprise users, for now. But what scares me, is how long before we are all at risk.
