  1. Great mission, and fun, too! Voted excellent gameplay and appearance, tolerable story. (Dunno if I should have voted anymore, since the contest is over...) TDM movement is better than in Thief, so having a whole mission to try these things out, was totally fun! I'm still actually playing this - atm I'm pondering what to do about the big wheel with the smaller wheels... Hmm... Don't want any hints, haven't needed them so far. Komag, this is one excellent mission! It's different, challenging, fun and crazy with a capital C! Make more missions!
  2. No, I can't. I thought that was on purpose (isn't it...?). Outside, yes. But inside, no. The existence or lack of music doesn't always affect the ambience you get from a place. It has an affect, sure, but the lack of music didn't diminish my experience or gameplay in any way.
  3. Thanks, Sotha! Will have to keep an eye out for that. Didn't realize they were... well, usable. Honestly, I can't tell them apart from the ones you can't use... Need to play more TDM, it would seem.
  4. Huge thanks to everyone who contributed to the making of this campaign Nice work, Goldchocobo! Mission 1 was great - even if my personal taste deviates away, far, far away from the undead. But the long climb up from the prison was totally fun! More of that, please. Mission 2 took a lot out of my machine, kept crashing every f***ing five minutes even with version 1.02! Still, I'll keep at it until I finish it, though I'm taking a break from atm. City missions seem to be quite demanding on hardware (still can't play Melan's mission, hopefully Bikerdude's update will fix that). And it's a shame because I love city missions! I will play it - even... if... it... kills... me... or my machine, which ever comes first. I'll just do it slowly incrimentally. Mission 3 has been wonderful thus far (still playing it atm). The forest at the beginning was truly stunning even though fps dropped quite a bit. Question: Is there another way out of the mansion than the front door? Can't seem to be able to climb out of the basement... Only asking because I haven't dealt with the guards outside the front door and don't really want to either. Gameplay is excellent, so is the music and the ambience. I have no complaints. Keep up the great work, guys, and give us more awesome campaigns! Can't wait for more - especially for this series!
  5. Just finished this yesterday (RL gets in the way, grr...). I voted excellent on all scores. Gameplay was fluent, appearance stunning and story ominous. I have to say that while I don't typically enjoy undead missions this was an expection! I liked the verticality of the map, the fog, the nasty surprises of all sorts, the challenge, the story, the ambience, etc. etc. What's not to like? A little experiential note: I was on the top floor attic, came down and went for the desk. BANG! Explosion! The whole attic came down on me. I screamed (I'm not ashamed to admit that, since I was wearing headphones and for me that intensifies the exprience). And my mother, who's staying with me due to an illness, sat on the couch and also screamed. So we were both screaming. After that I got an earfull for nearly scaring her to death, great... Soooo... Hey, thanks a bunch, Sotha! Now my mom's gonna be angry with me for weeks!
  6. I like the Inventor and the Mages threat ideas. Endless possibilities there. The undead threat has been done to death (pardon the pun). I realize there is a Plague Ward, but it doesn't have to be the undead every damn time. Maybe there was a clash between the machines of the Inventors and the magicks of the Mages, which resulted in... well, I haven't gotten that far, but it could be responsible for the so-called Plague Ward - or some other ward. There's a war going on in the background in Thief, with Blackbrook, if memory serves. How about a dictator this time in TDM? Could have some stories centering on him or his favorite nobles. Hey, could be fun to rob someone who abuses the masses! Well, it's obviously the decision of individual mappers to get the story balls rolling. If the story is strong, who cares if the protagonist isn't Garrett, ffs (bad language, my bad). Write what you want, fellas, I'll play!
  7. If I'm the only one who thinks this, feel free to tell me to shove it. The sounds of the spiders: They really sound a lot like the old zombies from Thief. I always confuse them. Can't tell you how long I waited around the corner in the beginning of the Rift, expecting to see zombies lunge towards me... And then I found spiders. Hmm... Is that how their sounds are going to remain? Don't get me wrong: If the intent is to instill fear, mission accomplished! In that respect they're awesome. I guess it sounds weird to suggest they should sound more realistic or animalistic (is that even a word?) since there aren't any giant spiders in real life - thank the Builder!!! I could've sworn I had an actual point to make when I started writing this...
  8. Thanks for the info, Fidcal. I understand - and I've actually gotten used to it already. I was just wandering if it was something "in development" . It's a challenge to move bodies arounf quickly and effectively - which is what Thief games and TDM are all about IMO. And Legion, yep, it was an intense moment! Playing TDM has awoken that feeling again. I don't get that from OMs so much anymore... Sad, but true. But now, thanks to TDM, I can experience the thrill of having to work fast and professional again to not get caught . Summer
  9. In the OMs it was a good thing to be able to mantle while carrying a body. Has this idea been abandoned for TDM completely or might it pop up on a later update? When first discovering I couldn't mantle while carrying a body I was in a well-lit hall after having knocked a guard out. I just could mantle onto a box and then lean forward or anywhere really to get at the body. It was time-consuming and problematic. It could be challenging, I guess, for future efforts (knowing better now) - but I would still like to see this feature make a comeback (or is it first time...? hmm....). Summer
  10. Thanks for the link, raymeld Was just as awesome as I remembered. How is this progressing? ETA for release? Tomorrow, the day after - I'm not greedy. Summer
  11. In March, I think, there was a youtube video floating at TTLG about a TDM FM the Noble Cave by AluminumHaste. The video was awesome! Any news on that...? Summer (I have developed the unfortunate habit of checking the upcoming TDM FM wiki every day and I - just - can't - wait... Should probably take a learning annex course on patience.)
  12. Congratulations, Sotha, on winning the contest! Paljon onnea! And huge thanks to all participants for giving us splendid missions to play! Summer
  13. Jep, kiva olla osana Thief-yhteisöä It is unfortunate, really, since when you're talking to someone who's drunk, you never really know who they are until after they're sober. Feeling "the buzz" doesn't mean that what you say is automatically more interesting than when you're not. Younger people...? Thanks, but I'm above thirty. Not a lot. But still. But I use FB to keep in touch with old school friends who live far away and my baby sister whose goings-on I keep a stealthy eye on Summer
  14. Amen to that! Being Finnish myself I know just how true this is. People consider drinking a part of typical social interaction - which is bull. When drunk or high are people really themselves? Or some exaggerated version of themselves? Not having ever been drunk or high or smoked anything I guess maybe I shouldn't really have an opinion on this, and Finnish people tend to get very defensive about this. Dunno if people from other countries do... As for Facebook, at first I got tons of adds and stuff from friends. After declining them time and again I'm glad people got the message. It's nice to know what your friends in far away places are up to - but if I can check that I bet some shady commercial organization and/or government can do the same. Blah. How come nothing fun or actually useful can ever get invented without some a**hole messing it up?! Summer
  15. Really...? I could never try the highest difficulty. Hard was hard enough! Wish I had even half of your courage... Summer
  16. This is a matter of preference, it's true. I for one like it. Thanks, Fidcal! It couldn't hurt to have items people carry on them to be a little brighter. In fact, I thought that was already the case: In the Alchemist there is this guard walking around near the alchemist's mansion on the street and he has this funny jacket on. There's a sort of a blond circle on his jacket right below his belt on his side - and I naturally thought "hey, finally a loot bag I can see!" I grabbed it - and found out it was actually just a part of his coat! And then I got my ass handed down to me on a silver platter! Having more than one key on a person is hard to see if the AI is wearing something dark colored. And you are basically approaching him from one direction only. You'd have to circle around him to find if he has another key or item on him. It's not hard - just frobbing blindly at times. Maybe some kind of compromise can be reached here in the next update? Summer
  17. Good news, Carnage and thanks for the info! I just replayed this yesterday. I like a smaller map, not everything has to be huge so that my machine is begging for mercy and crashing every half an hour. A bank, eh? Can't wait. As for part 1, I liked it and I didn't have any problems with it. A redux version? Together with part 2? Interesting... I absolutely won't mind replaying this one Keep us updated on your progress, please. Helps with the withdrawl symptoms... Summer
  18. Is there any news about Carnage making a Baltona 2? In the wiki Sons of Baltona is mentioned as number 1... So I just wondered. Summer
  19. I guess I kinda cheated the IronMan-setting since every time I got the objective failed on the screen I reloaded so I would get all the objectives done - even though most of the time I can't live without my trusty bj As for the sudden deaths, they didn't make me fail any objectives, so I didn't really see it as something hindering gameplay. Although... there was a dead guard at the doorway to the kitchen and I didn't bother to move him cos I hadn't killed him. Sooo... I was coming from the direction of the dining hall, just about to turn the corner to the kitchen when another guard yelled REALLY LOUD about a murderer! God, my heart just jumped to the ceiling and my stomach turned inside out! Gameplay-wise a tense adrenaline-rush moment - exactly what makes or brakes immersion. Intended or not, it was an awesome immersive moment that I won't soon forget Summer
  20. Thanks, Fidcal, for your spoilers - though it turned out I didn't actually need them: I ended up As for the light-gem, though, there I did need the help, cos It all worked out in the end: Game time a whooping 5h 43min and some seconds. I got all the objectives done, including no major alarms or even detection. I was a ghost (even though some people ended up dead on the floors for no apparent reason - and I sure as heck didn't kill them!). Thanks, Fidcal and Baddcog, for a great mission! This wasn't Thief-esque - it was Thief. Summer @aidakeeley:
  21. Need a little help here... Where might I find ? Spoil me, please Also, how can I get ? This is an awesome mission! Too bad I only have time to play it a few hours a day instead of one long strecth... Curse on having to work! Summer
  22. My two cents worth: This is one damn fine mission! From the very start... the fog, the atmosphere, the secrets... I'm still in the middle of this one, just got to the second floor. Ahh, I could write pages on the fog, it was just so awesome My mom who's not into computer games so much (except for Zork...) couldn't get her eyes off the fog This is a challenging map, to be sure, but other than the slite reduction in framerate in the beginning, I've had no problems. Fidcal, Baddcog, GREAT STUFF! Can't wait to play more from you guys Summer
  23. Huge thanks to everyone who replyed! Ok, backing towards the ladders it is. Gotta take it slow first until I get the hang of it. All in all, I love TDM. Mantling is so smooth that every time I play and then move onto T2 FMs I forget how awkward mantling is there... and curses start flying. But TDM... Smooth as silk. Thanks, guys!
  24. Thanks for the really quick advice I'll give it a try. It wouldn't normally be a problem, but there are a lot of vertical missions coming out lately.
  25. Sorry if this sounds like a noob question, but I have a question about the use of ladders in TDM. I can get on them fine from below and jumping on them from the opposite side if that's a possibility, but... How does one get on ladders from above? No matter how fast or slow I try to get on the ladders I end up falling and taking damage. Is there a specific key or something to "grab" the ladders from above? Or a technique I'm just not getting...? Summer
