  1. This decal thing looks like it is something that bothers FM authors in a big way. Did this get mentioned in What Are The Two Most Annoying DarkRadiant Issues ? I guess it doesn't exactly fit the question but it does in a round about way. And, though I was happy to see greebo shift from DR to TDM (and even more so to tdmupdate) (at least I thought this was what occurred recently), it sounds like if this idea of a please-splatter-this-area-with-some-random-grime button could be programmed, it would be a major hurrah. I still and will always maintain that the example above where the whole scene is mucked-up is a staggering step backward, but, sure, there are surfaces, maybe the majority, that might need griming (hey! that word "griming" is a word! I didn't expect that.). It will never matter too much to me as compared to the apparent pains that FM authors are going to, but, if they are convinced that they need it and aren't just doing it for the pleasure of being artists; if it is pure drudgery; well then I hope that this can be accomplished. Otherwise, as a fan of the fan missions (fan made? fan played? me? obviously playing on the "played"), I promise you that the griming (loving that word) for hours is going under-appreciated. I'd so much rather have the mission now.
  2. Not if it ruins this game for us... they've got enough shit and blood and blood and shit to keep them far away and that's where they can keep it -- far the fuck away.
  3. I see the eyeroll and I sincerely hope you mean it. That it is entirely a lashing of humor. Please don't even begin to pander to this set. Thanks.
  4. Said old-schooler could also buy some drugstore glasses that will fuck up their vision; grub-up their screen with some sloppy-yet-arty smear of filth; set their resolution to 160x120... many wonderful solutions to such wonderful needs...
  5. Do what thou wilst! The sky isn't even the limit! It's your world, inherit it! (Also even the "official" universe is never really going to work perfectly -- FFS, did you see the thread on "is she a guard, a thief or something else?"... hilarious! If these simple and basically inconsequential questions are being "debated" do you imagine that the cats can be wrangled? ) ... I can do sommersaults around Jupiter if I feel like it. (Still hoping for the elusive Jupiter mission ).
  6. Sotha Exactly. Each individual should be able to say what he wants to say and say it in front of everyone. If it is utterly foolish and/or not worth commenting on it will be seen as such by those who see it as such. If it warrants comment, then let those, those who deem it so, comment. There is no need for adults to react to anything said with anything more radical than to choose how to respond in kind; no need to hide things away, implement silly artifices such as "ignore buttons", close things down, insidiously wrangle a posse, break out the scarlet letters, or otherwise react reactionarily. LongShad Yeah, they are mostly goofy. But I think with the literal and cultural sketchiness here, the translation problems, using them will help.
  7. Also, if you don't mind my saying, feel free to break free of the universe and create your own. Or not. I love the notion that either approach can be taken. And, while I mean it when I say I like the idea of trying to have a coherent canonical universe, it will still be, I'm sure as fluid and murky as histories, even real histories, sometimes tend to be. But, if it is the canonical you are going for I would say Springheel is de facto according to me at leasto the nominated and elected authority. So you got the best info first there. Also, btw, if the above Eliz-ish is the date and place range I think Nooslak's new venture into hats and headgear is an excellent direction to take; some of those elaborate pointies and such for the ladies!
  8. Thanks for the welcomes really, but I am not Aida really. As for the "FMs are boring" angle, well, that's insulting to the FM authors. But it's also insulting to those of us who know better. There have been some great FMs. And the person most insistent that the "FMs are boring", it has been shown, is really just someone who gets frustrated if any thought (whether situational or the learning of new and improved practices) is required outside of the "accustomed" stagnant box that person has stuck comfortable in. This has been seen elsewhere as well...
  9. You most definitely are directing him to take his response to a public discussion and hide it in some private corner. It's ridiculous because you seem to understand that free and open discussion is a very valuable thing, going so far as to make a plea for the rights of others... only to, in the very same breath, order the person you are addressing to restrict his speech.
  10. That's weird that you demand he not speak in a public forum while defending the right of those he is speaking to to speak their minds...
  11. A few vertices here do, a few vertices there don't. Or vice-versa.
  12. STiFU Alright. As long as we don't start "understanding" the marketplace beyond "understanding" that it is an abject blight. Things have gotten so bad that it's long past the time that this is confined to console-gamers. I'm pretty sure 90% of "gamers" won't complete a game without a walk-through these days. So what is the point of playing RHEM 4 with a walk-through? You're not playing the game at all. And so we get tons of truly monotonous and boring shit churned out... splatterfest after splatterfest after splatterfest... and this mindlessness has crept into other, once better, genres as well, resulting in dreary and unchallenging disappointments such as "Black Mirror", Grey Matter", "Still Life", and much worse, those that don't even pretend to be more than a Disney flip-book or first-rate, third-grade Where's Waldo?
  13. No. This what pisses me off. It's not the way to go. It's wrong. Fact established. Done. We neededn't be arguing this anymore. It's. Not. The. Way To. Fucking. Go. If any of this results in the slightest dumbing-down then another battle is lost. What Fidcal is doing will hopefully work for those FM authors who want to make things easier for the people that can't be bothered to read and think. But if it results in FM authors wasting any of their otherwise valuable time and, worse, becoming bored themselves with the task of setting up these signposts, then, again... idiocy has triumphed. Not one whit to the witless!
  14. I realize there is a translation problem here. I've gone to lengths to underline this as a point, being an area for potential problems in both the literal and cultural areas. So, having said that, let me point out where you need some strict clarification. The FMs don't get stuck. You get stuck. And why? Well because you need some hand-holding to "show you the way". That's not a failing of the missions or the original engine or the mod or urban sprawl or Banquo or Bill Gates or Osama bin Laden or Jethro Pugh... it's your failing if you want to know the truth because you seem to be admitting that you have this problem with TDM FMs in general. And while some very few TDM FMs are guilty of obtuse "puzzle" failings? Certainly not more so than every other random game. Less so I'd say because these FMs are generally made by a brighter set...
  15. It is terribly unreasonable to call the FMs I've played "boring". Some 2 or 3 have been. Some 20 or so have been great fun. 5 or 6 have been awesome. So yes its terribly unreasonable for someone to call TDM boring and then being set straight about that to insist that the FMs are boring and then finally to insist and reveal that he is bored because he needs a walkthrough and some more hints. It's unreasonable to insist that things be dumbed-down to his level or he will yelp "boring boring boring".
  16. I've said it before and I'll say it again in celebration and as expression of the FM being public: Brilliant!
