  1. I circled it in red, the reflections in the stream are broken up by a line that runs straight up and down. It's not that noticeable, but it's still there. This isn't a bid deal as you don't play like this, this is just for taking super high res screenshots. I was just posting this to illustrate what Gildoran was pointing out.
  2. I've had issues with AVG's protection scheme. Whenever it finds a virus type embedded or alone, it restricts access to it even if you download a fresh version and don't scan it. When downloading cracks and stuff that are zipped, they often come with another file that is usually an exe and is a trojan. No problem as long as you don't run the exe, but sometimes when you try to extract the archives data, you get errors such as "Access is denied: you do not have sufficient privileges to access the file". Or sometimes it won't say anything and just won't work. This is probably what happened to you. AVG scanned the file using it's heuristic (spelling?) algorithms and went apeshit on one of the files thinking if COULD be a virus and restricted access to it. When the self extraction process was running, it was refused access to those files, and thus returned the "broken files" error. Just a theory.
  3. Yeah I just looked at one of the really high res pics (7680x4800) and you can definitely see the error in the water running down the street. I cropped the section of the error
  4. that's what I did, BIND F11 screenshot 3840 2400 Then hit F11 in game and it will take the screeny at that res. I tried it and went all the way up to 10,000 x 8,000, but each pic was like 500MB
  5. But I already posted this at rage3d.com, Link They are compressed a lot but are still nice to look at.
  6. Well holy crap, that's something I never knew! Thanks
  7. Holy Crap that looks awesome. Robert Downey Jr. is a respectable actor too, I hope he does the part well.
  8. I want to play Thief because I have fond memories of the experience, and I want to relive it. I'm not interested in only experiencing something new, because it's been so long since I've played them, I don't remember the original levels. I have a vague memory of them, but it's pretty clouded , so yeah, I just want to get it working. The only thing I haven't tried yet is disabling the second core in the BIOS, then try playing thief.....hmmm, I think I'll go try that.
  9. It would be nice if that worked, but it only works on a few computers. I've tried every single fix on the face of this earth, and nothing works. I get the menu fine, and everything, but as soon as I load up a mission, black screen and nothing. I checked the forums all over the intraweb and nothing
  10. AFAIK any program that can be run by going to Start->Run..., and just typing in the program name without the path, means it resides in the system32 dir. So just navigate windows explorer to windows\system32\mspaint.exe, press and hold the Alt key, then left click and drag the program onto your desktop to create a new shortcut.
  11. If anyone has ever heard of Neil Gaiman then check out his new book that he did with Terry Pratchett; Good Omens So far it's Gaiman good with a lot of comedy about the end of the world. It's kinda of a serious tone with humor woven in. It seems to be of a lighter tone though than Neverwhere. The funny in that book was kinda brutal. But I loved that book and am enjoying this one at work while it's not busy. Man this job takes too much of my time, but I'm hoping that my interview went well enough for the other job (Programming for Union Gas) that I can get better pay + better hours. Enough any for me to continue working on the Dark Mod with y'all.
  12. It's always done this way, wether it's the leaves of plants or the wheel of a bike etc. You guys know this stuff, this isn't something particular to this mod, every game uses this approach (mostly, I'm sure that there are exceptions) as it's the best way to make good detail vegetation, and still get good FPS. I had a few of these in the works when I was making my textures, but I lost all those when I did my format. I have the raw pics still (about 8 weeks of work lost), but none of the textuers and the material file is gone. (It was about 30 pages long) But anyways, you guys this is looking incredible, keep up the good work.
  13. When I got my Dell 9400 with the 7800 Go 256MB vid card, I did the same thing. I kept turning things up and up and up and they looked amazing. I then went and reinstalled all my older games that I was never able to play at high res. Man those times are great. Glad this worked out well for you.
  14. Yeah pretty close: 1 British pound = 1.9594 U.S. dollars
  15. There's a reason that they repackage these cards as only having 8/12 pipes; there's something wrong with the others that is preventing them from selling it for more money with all pipes enabled. So unlocking the pipes is iffy for most cards. Sometimes you get a card where the pipes are completely not working so you really have no choice. But if you are lucky, you might get a good one. Nice find there though, that is an amazing upgrade from the shit (sorry, it's true) 5200.
  16. Well the steps outlined seem simple enough, I just have to find my copy of VS2003, or at least VS2005
  17. Do I have access to the cvs?? could I download and build the source or is the 0.8 release coming out in a matter of a few days?
  18. It may be a closed beta, but he had posted the link on the polycount.com forums which are public, and did not restrict who could download it. I'm trying to find the links to the forum's topic, but I can't find his thread. It had some cool screenshots. EDIT: Found it http://boards.polycount.net/showflat.php?C...an=0&page=0 Some screens: Here's a quote from one of his posts:
  19. Only having one window for editing levels pissed me off about D3Ed and I always went back to GTK/DarkRadiant. I really like what you guys have done with GTK, but I like D3Ed's preview with realtime shadows and the light inspector thingy window that lets us use projected lights. BTW when is projected lights or whatever they're called going to be implemented in DarkRadiant?? God I can't wait until I'm done training in less than a week.
  20. http://www.crazybump.com/beta/download.html Check it out, but it is a limited beta. But it does work great for generating normal maps from pics.
  21. Same here. I can't stand slow computers or ones with 15" screens or less. Minimum screen size for me would be 15".
  22. Yeah I can't wait, I love art-deco in games. It looks great.
