  1. If you want to get a feeling what working for TDM is about, you should take a look at the game Doom 3 itself and try to do some Level Editing, Modeling, Texturing or whatever you're talented in, this really depends. There are a lot of Tutorials on www.doom3world.org, its Forums and also on DarkWiki. Generally speaking, it's never too late to do the first step, as I myself started modding in July this year. It's just a matter of interest and dedication, so I can really encourage everyone who is interested to try.
  2. Komag

    Bbc Robin Hood

(This was posted on the Eidos Thief forums, which are pretty dead though) After seeing the first four episodes of the new Robin Hood BBC series, so far here's my view: I sort of like it. It's cheesy and silly and melodramatic and dorky, but still kinda cool and fun at the same time. I was hoping for awesome, grand, epic, gritty, and got none of that, but what I did get is okay enough. So while I'm certainly quite disappointed, it's not that bad and I would say worth watching. I don't know anything about authentic costumes or helmets or anything. I like the outfits as far as I can see. I like the Sheriff and Guy of Gisbon far more than Robin or John or anyone else. Marion's too fat, but oh well, she's still sort of good looking. I suppose a medieval noble woman couldn't be all thin and cute like Keira Knightly, so that was too much to wish for. Robin has a weird baby face. And he completely reminds me of 6 year old Haley Joel Osment!
  3. I think in most forums you could go in and state that poo comes out of butts and someone would reply by calling you a name as the complete basis of their argument. Any response of rationalization on your part would be met with repeat insults. Its very frustrating to try and co-exist with certain types of individuals. Personally I loved TDS but fully admit it had its flaws (thinking about what it COULD have been is hard). I can't stand environments where people can't discuss their differences without hostility.
  4. So, what's up with these uninformed noodleheads popping up at ttlg? Actually it seems to be a general trend at any forum. TDS vs. TDM debates seem to irritate the mods: http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=109487 This one was closed by David which was a shame because I was actually enjoying it So I'll start yet another thread about misinformation about the dark mod & thief:deadly shadows Some people were vehemently disagreeing about something or other (the playershadow in d3 for example). The argument consisted of being able to turn the player shadow on. One guy says he never saw it after playing the game three times. Who would want to play d3 three times? Replayability seems nonexistant especially when things started to get predictable very quickly . . . Anyway, just playing the game 3 times doesn't make an expert on the game. I think people need to play it & poke around with config files or mod it in order to make the person more educated. Even then it doesn't make a person an expert. Another thing that came up in that thread is the animations of TDS vs. the classics. I think I was the only person who made/tweaked any new animations since the editor came out for TDS. I have an up close & personal experience with TDS animations & even though they used motion capture that doesn't mean they used it well. TDS animations, to me, seemed like a wheel with a buldge. They were not smoothed out & that shows up in the player animations. str8g8 would probably be the expert on T1 & T2 animations but they seemed very smooth compared to TDS. There shouldn't have been a comparison. Art direction was another thing. TDS just isn't as immersive as the first two. I'll leave that idea there since I probably posted a million pet peaves about this elsewhere. Technology issues. D3 is moddable. TDS wasn't designed with moddability in mind. I was too frustrated with TDS modding in order to continue modding for it. That's why I joined the dark mod
  5. There is also something like this: http://ipbfree.com/index1.php? This forums uses it: http://z11.invisionfree.com/obsessionstudios/index.php?
  6. Eh. phpBB is passable, but I don't really like it. I prefer SMF. These forums beat both though.
  7. The easy way to break a forum visiting habit is to remove it from your bookmarks, and remove the cookies. That way, every timeyou want to post there you have to go to type in the url of TTLG main page, browse to the thief forums and login.
  8. Greebo, you wrote the inventory, right? Can you take a look there: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?showtopic=4781 Thanks!
  9. Well, that certainly was fast. Feel like doing some hats? http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?showtopic=4686
  10. Here is a link to the thread that has my 'modified inspector window' patch. It gives you a minimise button on the entity inspector. It also incorporates Spars fix for the .bak file problem. You're game must be patched to 1.3 for this to work. http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?showtopic=3086

  12. I moved all the city-environment concepts into a single thread for easier accessibility, they seemed to be a bit scattered throughout the forums. I've also added another house concept and a possible guard house. Suggestions are welcome. Environment Concepts Individual Buildings 3-Story Home Backview 2-Story Home with large attic space. Guard House

  14. These are some great concepts , id realy like to model a construction set of this style of building for the mappers to use, Im still looking through the design forums, (what an amazing amount of info! ) so im still getting to grips with exactly where your at.
  15. Yeah, the problem is that the normal map isn't the right size. I have no idea why. I was trying to resize it manually but that doesn't appear to be working. Here's where I first asked Odd about it: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?showt...9&hl=spider
  16. I would like to welcome my friend, beyondGAMER (Phil), to our humble forums. He is a man of many talents, but I'll step aside and let him introduce himself and have a general word about what he would like to offer the mod. This is a brief sampling of some of his older work, but he hopes to have new examples for us in the next week or so. Here is a video sample of some walk/ run cycle animation he did for a Half Life mod a couple of years ago. The frame rate has been slowed down. http://www.philmacnevin.com/Invisible%20Ma...alk%20Cycle.mov
  17. To start with I've looked through some new threads and I saw that you guys still seem to get low amount of feedback from users wanting to help and what not. Mostly texture and such. I came to think about Moddb and that you guys have a profile over there. I know that there ain't much more you guys can do on Moddb if you don't have anything to update with. I checked out your Moddb profile and as I see on it, it gives the feeling of "zombie mode", I mean. Dead but still not dead. I think a rehash of the whole profile, help wanted and news would be nice. Last update was a month ago but I don't see much difference. Maybe a news update that sums up everything that has happened officially so far would be good, explaining the whole situation so people might get interest to join your cause. But then Moddb wasn't the only reason why I decided to make a post on the forums. It seems not too long ago the people behind Moddb decided to launch Addondb, a similar site to Moddb but focused on content brought by mappers and such. Making it possible to exhibit your own maps, custom models etc. Wouldn't this be a good way of giving The Dark Mod more publicity? What I've noticed a bunch of people has already got their hands on beta mapping kits for TDM and some are trying to get it as well. Why not inspire these people to showcase their maps on addondb, adding to the possibility that more will open their eyes to TDM? The only thing I'm not sure of is that if you must upload a map to showcase it at all, but I really doubt that. It's just a thought I had and it doesn't seem that much of a bad idea. Keep up the good work people.
  18. Moddb is annoying to update. All I do there is post a new picture once in a while so casual viewers can see that we're still around. Anyone who is seriously interested in the mod would be checking the website, which is updated every month or so, or the forums.
  19. There is this tutorial in the Documentation Forum. It's on DarkWiki as well (Creating multiple skins for a model), but as long as the Wiki database isn't replaced, you can find it here: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?showtopic=3098
  20. Post about elite city pauldrons looking like wings. I thought I fixed that? http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?s=&am...ost&p=88413 The walking/running anims probably need leftpad/rightpad rotations fixed.
  21. Add missing meshes to thief & find missing textures. http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?s=&am...ost&p=88387 Arm rigs look funky.
  22. Thanks for this, Spring The thief doesn't seem to have his own leg texture as well. Either I didn't find one or one didn't exist. So I borrowed the elite citywatch texture. I added this to my AI thread with some possible ideas to fix them: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?s=&am...ost&p=88342
  23. Pay attention to this thread: http://forums.thedarkmod.com/index.php?showtopic=4729 Ideas on how to fix builder guard: Experiment with constraints in Maya. The sword bone should move with spine2 since the upper armor is rigged to that. Where the armor goes then the sword joint should move with that. Try going 50/50 with the forearm & hand. 10-30-06: 50/50 results in having the hand stick out of the armor. Check normals on the mesh. 10-30-06: It looks like it's animation related. The upper armor might rigged to the leftpad joint. If not, check the mesh. 10-30-06: The left pauldron was partially rigged the the left shoulder instead of the leftpad. The weighting should match throughout the layers. 10-30-06: There was leg mesh sticking out the back. Thief Check joint rotation. Since they are sharing animations, check the animations for weird joint rotation. It's the idle animation with the weird rotation. Some of the AIs (citywatch(es)) have a strange tilt on the feet (looks like they're standing on their toes). This might be mesh related. If not, check foot joint rotation. Check mesh rotation for the thief. He might actually be leaning backwards. We might have to raid the md5mesh of the player & resize it appropriately.
  24. http://forums.taleworlds.net/index.php/topic,1874.0.html Must be from EA.
  25. Hi there! Great to see you stop by. I'll set you up with contributor status, so you can see the inner contributor forums. Thanks for helping out, we really appreciate your time.
