Modeler / Skinner / Writer / Editor Intro

I have only just discovered this mod, and I can't remember the last time I was this excited about any mod or game for that matter. I already have a few suggestions / questions for the mod, but I thought I would introduce myself first. I am obviously a huge Thief series fan. Thief 1 and parts of 2 were the best (minus the robots), and Thief 3 was a bit of a let down. The Dark Mod really seems to capture the next iteration of Thief that I was longing for in Thief 3.

I have exprience in the following:

3D modeling (milkshape 3D, a little 3DS Max & Maya)

Skinning

Photoshop

Light animation

Mapmaking (Duke Nukem 3D, Half-Life, Counter-Strike Source)

Weapons Mods (Max Payne, Jedi Outcast / Academy)

Player Model replacement - Counter Strike 1.6

Here's a link to my Lightsaber hilt pack for Jedi Academy with over 20,000 downloads

Here's a link to my Counter Terrorist model I released on csnation.net where they said "this is probably the best or one of the best player models for Counter-Strike"

Admittedly, I haven't done a thing related to modding or map making in a few years, but this is the type of project for which I would gladly get my hands dirty again. I have looked through the forums a bit, and I see that my list of skills may not be needed. That's ok, but I am also willing to learn something new if someone doesn't mind teaching.

From what I have read on the FAQ, it appears the Dark Mod will be providing the tools for others to make their own custom missions. Are there plans yet for a cohesive grouping of missions that would maintain some sort of over-arching campaign plot? If not, I would love to at the very least help contribute somehow to a complete set of missions with an over-arching plot full of twists and turns, with thief-like cutscenes. I realize the challenges such an endeavor would entail at the very least from an intellectual property standpoint (Who's Garrett? The voice-over guy just sounds like him and only refers to himself as me myself and I :P )

Anyway, I tend to be a bit too wordy in forum introductions and my intros also seem to have a gnack for generating oppositional responses, so I hope that isn't the case here. I am just very excited about discovering this mod and would love to see a cohesive set of missions appear and possibly be a part of it.

It would be really nice to put together a campaign, but with the team having spent the last 5 years working on the toolset, a full campaign would be quite the commitment. Possible, and probably a desire but a lot of work.

As it stands, we're going to be concentrating on the next update to the Mod. 1.00 is a beta and as such is going to require some bug fixing. We also need to focus on some features that didn't make it into 1.00.

You don't need us to start working on a cohesive set of missions. :) While I'd definitely recommend starting small to get used to the editor, there's nothing stopping people from banding together to try and string some missions together. In fact, I hope they do.

Hi Alaris! While this isn't my department (it's Springheel's!), I know there are some unreleased AI models that still need skinning, and we can always use more and better animations, for existing and future characters alike. We might have enough hands already though, I'm not sure. Springheel?

Getting involved in mapping would be a fine idea, and there's definitely nothing stopping you/others from putting together a campaign, except for the usual caveats about starting small and not getting ahead of yourself. :)

My games | Public Service Announcement: TDM is not set in the Thief universe. The city in which it takes place is not the City from Thief. The player character is not called Garrett. Any person who contradicts these facts will be subjected to disapproving stares.

haha I always get ahead of myself! I can't even begin to imagine what the team is feeling after 5 years--I certainly wasn't trying to suggest the team hop straight into making a fully fledged campaing, but I will definitely see if I can drum up some interest from newer sources.

Say, I know it's been a while since the site got overhauled from the crash. But did we ever figure out if/how to get the recent topics & replies list back? It's not a total deal breaker but it was nice for becoming a thread creeper again...

Some of you who've been on the TDM discord know I was out of work last Winter, just putting in hrs for the developer portfolio. Currently I've been working a seasonal job to pay the bills and now I'm finally in my last week before I get bumped off. Things will be tight but I'm planning a long off period to make as much content as I can. Big plans in Unreal Engine as well as my most ambitious TDM collab yet! Never been so excited to be a stuck at home to pursue my life's work. With a lotta time and maybe some luck, I'm hoping to get enough art work done that I may start applying around to studios.

I finally got around to play Prey and I truly loved it. It is an incredible homage to System Shock and Deus Ex. While the gameplay is not en par with those two titles, the game makes up for that with its well written lore and story. The whole "world" just feells so authentic and it features a ton of really god environmental story-telling. Recommended for every immersive sim fan, i.e., everyone on this forum.
