Stupid question propably, how do i load textures in the editor?

Or how do i connect to the various maps that hold stuff like scripts entity's so they show up in the editor.

It says shader library not found.

Thx for the help.

First, you are in the wrong forum. ;)

I am assuming you mean the Dark Radiant editor. Check the installation instructions.

In Dark Radiant > Menu > Edit > Preferences > Game you should have:

Select a game : Doom 3

Engine Path : c:/doom3/ [or whatever your path is to your doom folder]

Mod (fs_game): darkmod

Mod base : [blank]

All Dark Mod assets should then be available automatically. To begin with, textures are in the Media Browser panel of Entity Inspector. When added to a surface in the map then they also appear in the Texture browser panel of Entity Inspector.

For more information about Dark Radiant useage go to the Dark Mod wiki at http://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=DarkRadiant

If the textures still do not show then check the Forums here for troubleshooting and the FAQ on the wiki. Good luck! :)

Oke i found it, the tutorial stated something else, the textures tab is available when u already used them.

This is not the easyest editor, i worked with the fps editor that made me paint walls like in the sims.

if u could rip that editor to do thesame for the dark mod, mission creating just got alot faster.

And a lot worse.

Give it a day or so to get used to, i found DR a fantastic tool if you keep an eye on the wiki you'll be having almost all main features of an 'average' fm working in your map in a day or two.

edit:i think the fm section of the forums is getting quite messy.

When you say "fps editor", do you happen to mean this thing?

I ask because that editor is (no offense intended) extremely dumbed down. I actually started mapping (8th grade at the time) using Half-life 1 Worldcraft and Half-life 2 Hammer.

There is a console in Dark Radiant, but it's not the one you're looking for.

To compile a map for testing, you need to start up The Dark Mod, either with a custom Doom 3 shortcut or with tdmlauncher.exe. When the dark mod menu shows up, use Ctrl-alt-~ (~ or whatever key is right above tab) to pull down the game console. That's the console you need.

I am unsure what tutorial you are following Garreth. You say (about textures) that the tutorial stated something else. I've just gone back to check to see if I got it wrong and the first mention of textures is at http://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=A_-_Z_Beginner_Full_Guide_Start_Here%21#Materials.2C_Textures.2C_Painting_the_Block where it states 'Select the Media Browser' and goes on to describe how the Texture Browser only shows the textures already used. If you are not using that tutorial then I recommend you start at http://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=A_-_Z_Beginner_Full_Guide_Start_Here%21

Anyway, no matter, sounds like you are progressing now. You'll find Dark Radiant (if it is indeed DR you are using - better to be more specific with details when posting for help as I wasted some time framing irrelevant answers ;)) is a learning curve because there are so many features but you'll get there in the end. :)

yeah im getting the hang of it, it works great, have some realy nice rooms ready..

I was drunk and not realy listening to what i was reading in the tutorial laugh.gif

And yes Mortem i meanth First person shooter creator, but that shit is not nearly as accurate as Dark radiant

But now i seem to be needing prefabs, wich i do not have apparently?

I can go for a solid background.., instead of a skybox, but i do not know how to configure that option.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
