Camera questions

1) If I create a camera that points where I'm standing when I trigger it, I don't show up in the camera's view.

 

I have "cinematic" set to "1" on info_player_start.

 

Is this by design?

 

I'm considering a cutscene with the player in it, but it obviously won't work if the camera view doesn't paint me into the shot(s).

 

I assume a mirror will show the player. Is it the AI "Thief" model? If it is, I could use it as a stand-in for the player.

 

2) If I want an AI in the camera view, I have to mark it "cinematic->1". If I don't, the AI doesn't appear in the camera view. However, an AI not in the camera view is gone when control goes back to the player. So I guess the engine handles "invisible in the camera view" AIs by removing them from the game instead of just doing a hide/show?

 

Bug?

There is a player model, but the engine does not render it in firstperson mode (it would be a frivolous waste of GPU time anyway).

 

There's a convar to turn on hidden models (which might also turn on the invisible lightgem pyramid) or at least playermodel somewhere. I would have to search.

you could always use one of the thief ai's as a player stand in while the player is the camera. Its whats been done in hl2 mods when the player isnt playing as gordon freeman. in some of the doom3 camera cut scene's they use a dummy ai to represent the player.

      Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

      i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
      tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
