TDM Fan Missions Rating

Hi,

as a great fan of original Thief series, I was really happy when I found The Dark Mod.

As I see, there are about 30 fanmade missions now and I suppose that its quality will vary like in original Thief FMs.

Are there any kind of database with votes regarding its quality comparable to ttlg.com one for Thief FM?

While I would really like to play some of FM, I do not have much time to play them all so I would really appreciate to know which ones are recommended.

In case there is not such a database, could anyone who played some of these recommend some of FM?

Thanks a lot for any advice.

A lot of the mission threads have a poll in them that ranks gameplay, story, and visuals.

What kind of missions do you generally like? If you like classic mansion heists, I can heartily recommend Knighton Manor. If you like undead missions, I'd recommend Glenham Tower. If you want something small but fun, just to get used to TDM, I'd recommend Too Late, Thieves, or Outpost. If you like richer stories and larger missions, Builder's Influence or Heart of Lone Salvation are both good.

Regardless, you should definitely play the Training Mission first.

If you decide to play Glenham Tower or Knighton Manor and happen to enjoy missions which are interconnected, I recommend playing in this order for maximum enjoyment and understanding what is going on:

1. Knighton Manor

2. Beleaguered Fence

3. Glenham Tower

My Thomas Porter series is one day hopefully going to be a full campaign, so it is advisable to play them in sequential order: each mission continues roughly where the previous mission ended. I have Porter 4 currently under works.

Note also that Fidcal's cool Thieves Den series have missions in a certain order. Check the wiki here: http://modetwo.net/d...or_The_Dark_Mod

And sort them by Series.

EDIT:

Oh and btw

Is the v1.03 in-game mission downloader going to have the rating system yet?

In that case, I recommend trying the No Honour Among Thieves trilogy, or Heart of Lone Salvation. Both large, and both featuring a good, complex story.

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

Hey @nbohr1morehow come the zombies in The Dark Mod don't have a "resurrection" mechanic to it, similar to how Thief has it?
They're quite a weak creature as of right now, it's merely a walking corpse that slashes you, making attacking them to kill them an actual strategy.
Would be better if they had some cool mechanism to it that truly makes them a danger, such as the resurrection idea itself.

Query: when was the last time a zombie in a video game was unnerving or scary to you? I'm chipping away at my anniversary submission and I've been trying to gather opinions on the subject. I'm perfectly capable of lighting them well, changing their sfx, and creating effective ambience, but I'm worried that zombies at their core are just too overdone to be an effective payoff to the tension I'm creating.

Has anyone had any luck with textures from Polyhaven? Their OpenEXR normal maps seem too washed out and give incorrect shading in the engine.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.
