Add-On: Black Light (AKA "Pimp My Visuals")

Remind me, why isn't this an official part of the mod already? :) (Or is it?)

Come the time of peril, did the ground gape, and did the dead rest unquiet 'gainst us. Our bands of iron and hammers of stone prevailed not, and some did doubt the Builder's plan. But the seals held strong, and the few did triumph, and the doubters were lain into the foundations of the new sanctum. -- Collected letters of the Smith-in-Exile, Civitas Approved

It's it not an offical part, and I am not in the position to change that ;)

I'd go with Tel'sVEP too. People will recognize it as your baby and now that it is for many things.

I too saw 'black light' and thought of what else... a black light, lol. My first thought though was an in editor light to make darker corners...

Name aside most of the things sound pretty cool, though I'm a tad sceptical of dripping water arrows...personally.

Have not tested this with v1.07, but it should work. There is a planned update, tho, tweaking the water arrow trip and some small secret thing, but this will likely not happen before December 15th or so.

In the meantime, try it with v1.07 and tell me what works and what not.

Regarding the name, it is a great help when you want to google it :P

Blacklight is also an FPS series (second chapter will be free to play and based on last UE3 version) :P

Ah, found a little bug (as always bug hunting is my specialty :D) with the addon installed.

With TDM 1.06 and 1.07 in mission "The Creeps":

All TDM settings to maximum.

Z test problem related to the glass shader?

See this, half flame correct and half not:

Yes, both the glass and the flame use the warp shader, and there can be only one - which is a D3 engine limitation. Hopefully this can be fixed somewhere in the future.

Hi Tels,

I tested your add-on for the first time and I'm impressed. :) New effects are sweet, especially fire arrow. Apart from the air warp, it casts some lighting on exploding. I guess you forgot to mention that.

btw. I found a bug on fire arrow. It doesn't show effects if you hit on ground, w/o your add-on it works fine.

Glad you like it :)

Yeah, this bug is because the arrow explodes about 1 unit below the surface, so some things get hidden (the smoke etc all still play, but below the ground, you can check that with noclip and fly below the floor :). However, I have not been able to find out why this is, it seems to happen only sometimes (depending on the angle you hit the ground with?) and I am also puzzled why the original fire arrow does not do this.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.

Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )
