Old, space ship game, Bleh.

Lol, just trolling ya. Though my old point still stands. Not much info ona the game. Give us the juice if you're going to post about it.

I can't recall if i played this, I think I played a demo and it was fun, but couldn't find the whole game???

I do have a game called Darkstar on Steam that was pretty fun. I think what happened was I played a Freelance demo off an old magazine CD (The one that had T2 and Dues Ex free?), and the closest thing I could find in my searches was Darkstar. Darkstar wasn't as well received but from what I could find it was the most modern/best game like Freelancer.

Darkstar had some very repetitive artwork (all the com characters in the universe shared the same 5 icons). And there were only like 2-3 ships that you could customize a little. Some trading but nothing major. Certain materials were worth more in certain galaxies, but you had to travel through galaxies where that stuff was illegal to get best prices, etc...

But I liked the space battles which weren't too tedious but were action packed. And I liked the fact that the trading wasn't too tightly entwined, it was mainly side objectives and used for ship upgrades/ammo.

------

After that I tried the X series (X2, X3) and didn't like it at all, too much sim and barely any good space combat. Those are very in depth games that take way too much effort.

Freelancer - what a great game !

What?! It doesn't SUXXORZ???

I played a nice space game (I'm not a fan of space games) about ten years ago. I am not sure if it was "Freelancer". You were able to travel through the universe and could do diplomatics, trade and upgrade your ship. It felt much like freedom. Can't remember the name :(

That could have been Freespace 2 or maybe Independence War. Don't think Freelaner was around at that time and it doesn't really have diplomatics in it. Great game though. Used to play this a lot with my mates online. There's a mod called Crossfire for it, that's been around for a while. I think a new version has been released this year and if I recall correctly the mod was also in moddb contest

Thank you Carnage. I looked to some screens and I'm still not quiet sure which one of both it was, but it was one of those two. You gave really precise tips, so I guess you're a true space fighter. :) I guess I'd have to try those games to find out which one it was. I got installed my old Win98 so I'll give it a try soon, yippie! :D

Haha no not anymore, but I really was hooked on to Freelancer :). Well if you wanna give these games a go, you might also wanna check out the X games. They have a really steep learning curve so you might want to wait for the new one X: Rebirth, which supposedly is going to be easier to learn, but the screens are just fantastic and the possibilities what you can do too

Freelancer and Free Space 2 games are the best "space" games for me

I found X hard and boring (to much control buttons ect.)

will check that Crossfire mod in near future...

Proceed with caution!

Yeah there are persistent servers for Freelancer using mods like that - haven't checked them out myself but we're talking about mods that add dozens of systems, new planets and stations - factions - spaceships and so on.

Happy Labour Day, my taffing taffers & hard working mapping friends!
And remember the poor souls who, within the Inventors’ organization, labor under Jonus’s yoke to ensure the success of that very guild! Always remember the hard workers!

Is there a script command to make a screenshot?
I just though it could be interesting to be able to create a screenshot at a certain point in time. Then use that screenshot possibly in a debrief.
I guess the second question is: Can you use a (in-game made) screenshot in a (debrief) gui?
