------Elevator Fix for 1.08 and workaround for now.

I'm posting this now because it's an important fix and we have a workaround for those of you using elevators in your maps.

 

The problem was that often AI would not use the elevators even when they worked fine for the player. Grayman has found the problem is a tiny glitch relating to visportals and this is fixed in 1.08. The AI would not path from one path corner to another if it had to pass through a visportal within the elevator system.

 

A workaround for now is this: Instead of putting visportals in the elevator shaft or in the access doorway put them in the corridor or room near the elevator. Then put two path corners near the access to the elevator shaft - one targetting the next floor and the other to return to from that floor. So there is no visportal between one path corner and the next. So if you had path corner 1 on Floor 1 and path corner 2 on Floor 2 change it thus:

 

Path 1 - Elevator entry - Visportal - Elevator exit - Path 2 (and back to 1) change to:

 

Path 1 - Visportal - Path1A - Elevator entry - Elevator exit - Path 2A - Path 2

 

To go back from 2 to 1 you also need two more path corners:

 

Path 2 - Visportal - Path2B - Elevator entry - Elevator exit - Path 1B - Path 1

 

Note that AI will still always use stairs or ramps if available in preference to elevators (eg Chalice and Outpost) but this is being looked at to see if there is a fix. But that will likely be much more tricky to find a solution. So for now if you really want your AI to use elevators make sure they cannot also reach any stairs and have to use the elevators.

      i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
      tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
