Mappers preparing for Standalone

How should a mapper prepare for the standalone?

I'm making a mission and would like to use gibs model from the /gibs category in DR. I know these are D3 assets. I also know they are being replaced with free standalone assets.

Can I just use the D3 gibs assets and then when standalone comes, the free gibs are put in the same place as the D3 assets are and my stuff just works with standalone. And that the replacing gibs are roughly same, oriented the same way, simply snap-on replacing the D3 assets?

Or will the standalone gibs be somewhere else or be completely differently oriented? Do the mappers need to go back and re-orient replaced assets they used in their old missions?

Can I just happily use D3 assets I know will be replaced or should mappers now carefully avoid soon-to-be-replaced assets and start to use them only once the standalone TDM is released?

What is the policy one should take now?

If everything works properly, D3 assets should be replaced in such a way as mappers don't have to adjust anything. This won't always be possible--the zombie animation rig has changed, for example, which means joint names are different. Mappers will need to manually adjust any def_attach on zombies that refers to a joint. However, in most cases; models, textures, simple entities, etc, the change should* be fairly transparent.

* although given that literally hundreds of assets are changing, don't be too surprised if we overlook something.

One thing mappers should definitely NOT do is use any new D3 assets in their unreleased maps. I know this is a bit of an annoyance, because there are some assets which are being replaced, and could actually be used, but without knowing for sure, you could easily wind up using an asset that won't exist in the next update.

I'm collecting a list of everything that needs to be replaced on a map-by-map basis. Haven't gotten to Winter Harvest yet.

Query: when was the last time a zombie in a video game was unnerving or scary to you? I'm chipping away at my anniversary submission and I've been trying to gather opinions on the subject. I'm perfectly capable of lighting them well, changing their sfx, and creating effective ambience, but I'm worried that zombies at their core are just too overdone to be an effective payoff to the tension I'm creating.

Has anyone had any luck with textures from Polyhaven? Their OpenEXR normal maps seem too washed out and give incorrect shading in the engine.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.
