[SOLVED] No audio on Ubuntu 14.04

I have no sound on an ubuntu 64 bit machine in darkmod (no music no ambient)

If you changes one of the vars in Darkmod.cfg (or one of the other configs),

from seta s_driver "best" to seta s_driver "oss"

If you're trying to use OSS for sound out on Ubuntu, you're probably running into the problem of Pulse Audio monopolising /dev/dsp . You could disable the Pulse Audio service, but you'll run into sound not working in other applications, or sound not being shared. A better solution is to use a OSS emulation wrapper that outputs to a sound system compatible with Pulse Audio.

Install OSS emulation for ALSA with:

sudo apt-get install alsa-oss

Once installed, run the game with:

aoss ./thedarkmod.x86

Good to know. Had this problem when I ran Kubuntu a while back. The windows version ran fine through wine though, so I used that instead. Thanks!
