Machines

Spring. We already have several general cocnept arts from you regarding mood. YOu know, what we talked some time ago.

Can you do some more? I was thinking this time of a scene showing an street scene with houses which should feature some steampunk elements like pipes. The most important part should be that it prominently features some machines in a nice environment. Maybe you can do several. One outdoor scene, one indoor, like a machineroom or something and one with a living room where such machines could have some use.

Machines really aren't my forte. I'll pass it on to the department.

I do have a new piece of art that should be finished shortly, however.

Machines are my forte, just let me know the details spring, and i'll get started on that as soon as i'm done with the current batch.

Oh, and for a mood shot, check this out, (needs divx)

Ohhh, hell yeah, animated steam.

(It's somewhat low quality, as it's compressed with divx, the original is pretty damn good looking, but is a whopping 24 mb's.)

I thought of several shots that should show off how the machines are integrated into the society. So they should look natural to that world and not overemphasized. Just like cars today, they don't look artifical or out of place, but they fit in. I think there should be an outdoor scene as well at least one indoor.

Looks good. What is this?

We've talked about, in our setting threads, having the technology look like it has been added after the fact. It hasn't been around for that long, so a lot of houses had it added after they were already built. So pipes go up walls and around corners in ways that aren't really efficient.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.

Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )
