Shadow ring on faces

Hm! If you look at the third pic across, it looks like he's got the same strange shadow ring near the eyes and nose as I noticed on the citywatch yesterday

The houseguard head is pretty fubar'd. The citywatch head should be fine, however. Can you post a picture of the problem somewhere?

Is this just on the elite citywatch or have you also noticed it on the citywatch? I haven't done any work on the elite yet.

Hm, it's hard to be sure. It might just be that I can't get the light in exactly the same spot, or -- take a close look -- is that the ring appearing on the end of his nose? Maybe a shadowmesh issue? I see the side of the coif doesn't cast on his cheek either. We can never expect these to be perfect of course, I just wonder if it's a simple problem.

Well, the shadowmesh is off, because the head mesh is built into the body. As I go through and adjust our AI, I'm removing that part of the mesh and adding unique shadowmeshes to the heads instead. But I haven't looked at the elite yet. I'll upload the new citywatch mesh this weekend and see if that fixes it.

Sure, here's a closeup of the citywatch. Turns out it does move with his blinking, so maybe it's the eyelid(?):

Would that mean that the material files for the heads are set to allow self shadows? Id chose to disable self shadowing. Probably for issues like that..and that the close up self shadows are so harsh.

No, the visible mesh has shadows totally off. Any shadows on the AI are being cast only by the shadowmesh (though there may be some exceptions on individual AI I'm not aware of yet).

Hey @nbohr1morehow come the zombies in The Dark Mod don't have a "resurrection" mechanic to it, similar to how Thief has it?
They're quite a weak creature as of right now, it's merely a walking corpse that slashes you, making attacking them to kill them an actual strategy.
Would be better if they had some cool mechanism to it that truly makes them a danger, such as the resurrection idea itself.

Query: when was the last time a zombie in a video game was unnerving or scary to you? I'm chipping away at my anniversary submission and I've been trying to gather opinions on the subject. I'm perfectly capable of lighting them well, changing their sfx, and creating effective ambience, but I'm worried that zombies at their core are just too overdone to be an effective payoff to the tension I'm creating.

Has anyone had any luck with textures from Polyhaven? Their OpenEXR normal maps seem too washed out and give incorrect shading in the engine.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.
