I've used nvidia tools to convert from dds to tga many times but I can't get the reverse to convert from tga to dds: I've tried the following but only get a zero bytes dds and nvcompress crashes...

nvcompress name.tga

I've extracted the following useage from which I've tried -nomips. Any of the others I should try?

usage: nvcompress [options] infile [outfile]

Input options:

-color	The input image is a color map (default).
-normal The input image is a normal map.
-tonormal Convert input to normal map.
 -clamp	Clamp wrapping mode (default).
 -repeat Repeat wrapping mode.
 -nomips Disable mipmap generation.

Compression options:
 -fast Fast compression.
-nocuda Do not use cuda compressor.
 -rgb RGBA format
 -bc1 BC1 format (DXT1)
 -bc2 BC2 format (DXT3)
 -bc3 BC3 format (DXT5)
 -bc3n BC3 normal map format (DXT5nm)
 -bc4 BC4 format (ATI1)
 -bc5 BC5 format (3Dc/ATI2)

Ah, crap, I recall now that the FTP is still down. We had the correct version of ATI's compressonator on our FTP, but it's gone now. Newer versions won't work for Doom3, so you need to get that specific one. I can upload the correct version when I get home, I've got it buffered on my local hard drive.

As for documentation: look at my DDS creation article on our wiki: http://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php/DDS_creation

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
