Good good. I've seen too many, made up, unrealistic skeletons in games. Nothing is as freaky looking as a real one.

Hey, anyone played Calendra's Legacy?

Do we want to have SKELETONS as undead in our mod?? Undead skeletons rock. There aren't enough of them in games. Imagine one clattering out of the shadows at you suddenly with its arms outstretched going "ee-hahahahahaahaaaaa!!!!" in that high-pitched voice they always seem to have.

Well, they still look cool as props in some observatory.Every study had such a thing in medevial times. :)

just to play the smart ass here :D :

certainly not in medevial times, cauze touching/opening a human corpse was considered to be unclean/unholy. even at the time of leonardo da vinci it was still defied, that's why he broke into a mortuary at night and stole a corpse to dissect and drew it  It took another 100 years till the so called enlightenment era, till doctors "were allowed" to dissect corpses themselves. that's about the time, when Rembrandt drew his famous painting "the anatomy education of Doc. Nicolaes Tulp"

eehm, BACK to Topic :D

I think skeletons should be an option, since there are already sekeleton-models in D3, so it should be pretty easy to tweak them for the thiefworld ;)

It's hard to make skeletons look good moving around, but we should definitely use them for 'decoration'. I don't see any reason to model our own though, when we can just use the D3 ones.

But in that case you should limit this to western culture because in the occidental(sp?) it was quite common to be teached this with real human corpses. In western culture, students of anatomy were only allowed to take alook at (more or less) natural occurences. For example if somebody had an open fracture they could take a look at it and see how the bones are constructed, but they were not allowed to open a corpse. The arabian culture at that time was famous for their doctors, though, because they had no such reservation. There are several good books on this issue. :)

Didn't knew about this. :)

Hey @nbohr1morehow come the zombies in The Dark Mod don't have a "resurrection" mechanic to it, similar to how Thief has it?
They're quite a weak creature as of right now, it's merely a walking corpse that slashes you, making attacking them to kill them an actual strategy.
Would be better if they had some cool mechanism to it that truly makes them a danger, such as the resurrection idea itself.

Query: when was the last time a zombie in a video game was unnerving or scary to you? I'm chipping away at my anniversary submission and I've been trying to gather opinions on the subject. I'm perfectly capable of lighting them well, changing their sfx, and creating effective ambience, but I'm worried that zombies at their core are just too overdone to be an effective payoff to the tension I'm creating.

Has anyone had any luck with textures from Polyhaven? Their OpenEXR normal maps seem too washed out and give incorrect shading in the engine.

I tried to upscale the TDM logo video. First try:

briefing_video.mp4 You can test it ingame by making a copy of the core tdm_gui.mtr and place it in your-tdm-root/materials/ , then edit line 249 of that file into the location where you placed the new briefing.mp4 file.
What I did was I extracted all the image files, then used Upscayl to upscale the images using General photo (Real-Esrgan) upscale setting and then turn it back into a video.
I might have to crop it a bit, the logo looks smaller on screen (or maybe it's actually better this way?). My video editor turned it into a 16:9 video, which I think overal looks better than 1:1 video of original.
