TDM Updater doesn't download TheDarkMod.exe

When you run the updater, click the Show Log button in the bottom left, then press Continue on the updater.

Once it's finished copy and paste the logs text into notepad and attach said .txt file to your next post.

I always assumed I'd taste like boot leather.

Make sure your darkmod directory isn't read-only and that User Account Control is off.

It's at C:\Games\TheDarkMod, that shouldn't be an issue. UAC also wasn't a problem before.

Sure thing.

UAC should not be an issue as I've never had an issue with it on.

You try run as admin on tdm_update? You shouldn't have to do this but it may work around a permissions issue.

Okay so the updater is finding the exe missing:

Checking for member file: TheDarkMod.exe
 Checking for file TheDarkMod.exe: MISSING
Checking for member file: ca-bundle.crt
Checking for file ca-bundle.crt: CRC calculated for file C:\Games\TheDarkMod\ca-bundle.crt = 18b39eb5

I always assumed I'd taste like boot leather.

Try running the updater as admin.

I actually did run tdm_update.exe as an admin yesterday and nothing came of it. Today, though, for some raisin, it worked. Probably something to do with shutting down my computer since then.

I had since just used the torrent file to acquire the whole package, but thanks anyway.

I'm not sure why people choose to use torrent when you can just get the Updater from the official site, run the Updater, and it will gather everything you need AND get the most up-to-date versions of everything. Otherwise you're trusting, usually, an unknown source to package the files up and who knows if they have an agenda, what their agenda is, and what's tossed in along with everything else.

If you have install issues, its always best to go to the source first and try the install with verified original files if they're available, unless the IP is blocked in your location or some other network anomaly.

Like downloading the Updater from here --->http://www.thedarkmod.com/download-the-mod/

And then letting the updater grab everything it needs.

Glad you got it working though.

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.

Maybe a bit of advice ? In the FM series I'm preparing, the two main characters have the given names Toby and Agnes (it's the protagonist and deuteragonist, respectively), I've been toying with the idea of giving them family names as well, since many of the FM series have named protagonists who have surnames. Toby's from a family who were usually farriers, though he eventually wound up working as a cobbler (this serves as a daylight "front" for his night time thieving). Would it make sense if the man's popularly accepted family name was Farrier ? It's an existing, though less common English surname, and it directly refers to the profession practiced by his relatives. Your suggestions ?
