How do you fix patches...

I'd also like to know if anyone does know.

I didn't have a fix so didn't mention it really in the wiki arch article.

One thing you could probably do is make 2 90 degree patches like the one on the right and flip one. That would give you a rounder arch but keep divisions down.

The only thing I could find was to make them in limited sizes. If it starts to split like that then scale it back down/or make it rounder.

Tried splitting into 2 90's but did the exact same thing, which is why I tried making it out of 1 180 degree patch.

I always assumed I'd taste like boot leather.

It's the "Tesselation" of the patch curve. In many cases such as that one where you are matching up a cap or flat top curve with a vertical wall patch that bends, you will want to set them both to "Fixed Subdivisions"

- Select one of the patches

- Open the "Patch Inspector" by pressing "Shift+S"

- Near the bottom check the box next to "Fixed Subdivisions"

(You should suddenly see the patch go somewhat "square")

- Experiment cranking up the Horizontal or Vertical number until you get desired curvature

- Repeat steps for the matching patch and set either Horizontal or Vertical to the same number.

(In the second patch it may not be the same Horizontal or Vertical, i.e. it could be the opposite)

AluminiumHaste: Can you give me permission to use your image on the Dark Wiki? I'll do a short article.

Komag: Can I paste your post into the wiki - it virtually is a tut. :)

Anyone suggest a title? This is one of those things that is hard to name. If you had this problem where would you look on the wiki? You wouldn't look under tesselation unless you already knew the solution. Probably patch alignment or something so it might go into another patch tutorial.

Go for it, free to use.

Thanks. Anyone who gets this problem just remember to look under H. I think I'll start a patches errors section - I had one of my own but been too lazy to put it in the wiki.

I can easily add a template "{{patches}}" that sorts articles relates to patches into their own category (which would be a subcategory of editing).

Just gimme a shout.

Yeah I was just looking at the wiki and found this:

There is a problem with this arch, this happened because I made a very flat topped arch. Patches will optimize themselves and because the arch was fairly flat it doesn't have enough shape to match the outside of the arch. The cure for this is to make the arch rounder in shape. So with all the arch patches selected (don't forget both sides, top and bottom) resize it height-wise until you see the patch sub-divide so it has the same amount of sections as the outside.

The bold part should also mention that you can stop tessellation optimizations by using the patch inspector and forcing subdivisions.

What I will do is link from that article to the new Patch troubleshooter when I do it.

Well, we already have a pretty decent patch section, I think it should be added there.

That's what people will probably be looking at when they encounter the problem.

Of course having it under 'tessalation' would be good to just for definitions.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.
