Tutorials?

Demigod

Recommended Posts

While I am aware of the many useful tutorials available for doom3 now it has been out for a few months, I wondered if you (darkmod team) will be producing your own? While I am aware that this will create certain levels of overlap it may be helpful to have a tutorial from inside the team to explain the nuances and differences of using the darkmod to create levels rather than vanilla doom3

Thanks

Looks cool btw. :D

Well, since we want to release the tools to the public to create their own FMs. we certainly have to create tutorials. But this has to wait until the tools are in a state where it makes sense to create tuts for them. Currently we are still in pretty basic stuff, even though we did some good progress so far.

Mapping for our mod will be pretty much the same to mapping for Doom anyway, you'll be using the same editor.

If you are familiar with DoomEdit and have made Thief fan missions in Dromed, then we won't be able to teach you much

Don't worry, we'll be including full documentation for all the new stuff we come up with, and probably some basic mapping tutorials as well. That will be near the end of our list of 'things to do' though. :)

If I can't get my comp to play nice here soon I might end up writing a couple of tutorials on basic Radiant mapping. I've already done one on spiral staircases, and it'd be good for people considering moving from Dromed.

Hmmm, sounds like a good idea. We need to get our FM authors primed and ready so they can get to work upon release. :)

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
