  1. Depends. If navigation is not supposed to be the main challenge then give the player a map, otherwise you might end up overwhelming the player with a maze filled with guards. If the player is meant to get lost, like exploratory missions, then don't give the player a map I think I prefer with a map, since exploratory missions are not my thing.
  2. That was excellent! Played on "thief" difficulty and, despite loading a few times, it wasn't frustrating. My main difficulty was
  3. I voted 1, 3 and 5 stars because I like the symmetry. But the poll results are all over the place! totally not symmetric ehm... yeah, sorry to interrupt the thread discussion. I'm anxious to play some missions I even replayed some lately.

    Dark Souls

Anyone else played? I'm playing it since yesterday. It's clearly a good game, I really want to like it! but it requires too much dedication, an amount I'm not willing to give for a game anymore. This design is very similar to the 8 bit era design trend, games that are hard and require persistence and dedication. It's adapted, of course, it has checkpoints, therefore it has to be longer than those games (in order to be equivalent). I remember playing some of those games for months, each play through would get me a little further into the game. Some games I never finished! this is weird nowadays, right? games that we can't finish.
  5. It's not a game, it's a... ahn... a place foooor... people who make games tooo.... I don't know. But it's not a game Edit: ah! you probably meant the reward game, made by pen ward and the dude who made qwop (QWOP Y'ALL!)
  6. I'm a little late here, for some reason everytime I started playing this map I would feel impatient and unmotivated. And I really need to be in the right mood to play TDM. But I did play it now and it's an awesome mission! challenging but without quickloading, for me that's the holy grail of TDM FM design. I didn't explore more than I had to.
  7. I'm so uninformed about hardware specifications, but that looks like a very nice PC! I think it's better than mine and I can work with graphical softwares like 3ds max, play modern games with good settings etc with no problems. Good to hear we have a new mapper
  8. I use a regular keyboard and a three button mouse (left, right and the middle button that is also a scroller) Suits me fine! It's the best control scheme ever invented, in my opinion, even better than any console controller. Console controllers have the advantage of analog sticks, and are more compact than mouse + keyboard, these need a table. I would buy the equivalent of a wasd keyboard with an analog stick if such thing existed and I could afford it.
  9. You're killing us! but take your time
  10. I don't think it's news. I mean, who are the people on this site? if they had some important news to share they wouldn't announce it like this "the next friday we will reveal something" as other news sites have as much access as them to this kind of news, thus it would be all over the place by now. Maybe it's something they are making.
  11. Is that month/day/year or day/month/year?

    Cryengine 3

Graphically, yes. It's not definitely not cartoony, impressionist, cubist... they want realism edit: I slept for 2 hours, I don't know if I'm making any sense
  13. I never studied string theory so I probably couldn't answer any of your questions. It's one of the subjects I'm interested for the doctoral though.

I haven't played it yet but their priority seem to be realism always, and they don't compromise not even for the gameplay.

Just illustrating the slow progress from Atari in comparison to the covers

How about this one, Atlantis: Tower defense and management elements This is really an ingenious idea. This would be a better game development contest theme than any I have seen so far.

    LOL that would be interesting!

Yes, we are. We can tell using the cover parameter I remember as a kid I used to choose games based on the cover. These were atari games, so I was almost always disappointed because the cover had nothing to do with the game! Then the 8 and 16 bit came and things got a little better, the game kinda resembled the cover but it was still way inferior. I believe we have finally reached the age of the games that look as good and sometimes better than the cover! Berzerk from Atari, cover and screenshot: Altered Beast cover and screenshot: I'm not even going to post the crysis cover/screenshot because the cover is a touched screenshot
  19. I'm storing all the feedback, keep them coming. Although I can make tiny tweaks to the eyebrow without protest, the eyebrows and the whole facial expression are intentional. For me, evil eyebrows look cheap and silly, I really prefer a more natural and neutral look, one that would look at home in a wild animal. People fear bears for what we know they can do and they even have a cute face.

    Hobbit thoughts

I'm trying not to read this thread to avoid spoilers. What seems like a positive point is that it seems different from the book, which most people think is boring. However the first red flag, for me, is the trilogy structure. I don't like trilogies anymore! What's so magic about the number 3 that people are willing to ruin scripts just to round up the number of movies to 3?! I feel bad for matrix, it could be sitting beside star wars and other sci fi classics but no, it had to make two additional movies that could easily be just one, and make them long and "filled with emptiness". I hope Hobbit avoids this fate.
  21. I'm 31 tonight! I'll celebrate on a bus, on the most boring road of the planet.

Reminds me of a street in russia.Hundrets of kilometres through deepest forest on a curvless road, and in the midst of the forest...a bus stop :D

Congrats for making it past 30 :D

  22. You have a point. You have another point. ok. I won't start rigging right away, instead I'll let it breathe for a couple of days (wine analogy, get it?) and gather more opinions and ideas before tweaking the model.
  23. There are several things bothering me too, the forearms, the hair/skin transitions etc. But I have to call it done some time, or else I would just keep working until 1) it's perfect or 2) I lose my motivation. And the second alternative is much more likely edit: however, I think it deserves at least color on his ear tips! doh
