  1. Wasn't the only drawback to the Doom3 engine issues with lighting calculations? I think Carmack even said that it wasn't done the best, most optimized way possible.
  2. haha I like how they use a picture of Crysis. Yes realism, like getting shot with 900,000 high-powered bullets and being able to run around. Or how about using a 50 cal weapon and shooting someone's arm and only knocking them down. If you ask me realism may be more gruisum than what we already have in fps lol.
  3. lol I think doom needs more bizarre environments like Hell. I thought Hell was so cool when I first got to it.
  4. I found this just now: http://www.gameinformer.com/News/Story/200...2214.htm?Page=1 and in it Carmack mentions that there will be a Doom4, but they haven't even assigned a team to it yet. He also talks about a lot of other great ID things going on such as the 'expansion' of gameplay elements in their upcoming games. It's a good read for any other ID enthusiasts such as myself.

    Rage

Yea, despite steam's inconveniences it has been very helpful to me since I have about 7 games on it. It's nice to not have to hunt down cds and spent time finding patches and updates. It's especially useful on a new computer because you only have to download the games rather than spend all day doing the above mentioned. So i guess steam isn't all bad.
  6. I really wanna work on the darkmod but I haven't been able to for the last 2 weeks because of school! ARGG! I have my last final tomorrow though then I get a three week break! It's literally eating away at me I wanna map sooo BAD!@$ BLA!!H!H!!
  7. I think a lot of the ideas revolve around customization of settings. I only now just realized how large of an issue customization in T1/T2/T3 have been when I just thought about all the mods made to change tiny settings in the game regarding graphical configurations to the hud and things like that. Chances are, if it's big in the Thief community it will be at LEAST taken into consideration by the mod team Our mod team rocks
  8. I hope everything works out great for you and your wife! Hopefully you will be buying cigars soon!

    Rage

I doubt ID will start using steam, their probably just raking in cash for 'old' games. Doom3 is already starting to get very dated in comparison to some of the newer stuff coming out and steam is a good way to have people get influenced to buy it before it goes 'dry'. About the Rage engine. I saw this trailer for the first time today and I'm so excited again I love Id's stuff and has anyone else noticed the extremely high poly counts! Carmack must have done something magic again because I'm seeing curves all over the place! I'm also seeing hdr, beautifully made characters and I'm glad that ID is taking a game in yet another new direction rather than sticking to purely fps.
  10. I've had the same issue, I clicked yes and everything when back to defualt, making me lose my settings. I tried to change my settings back to normal but when I exit it doesn't save which windows I have open, so I keep getting an extra XY view.
  11. Nope it doesn't, not playable enough to be considered fun at least. You will have to wait for a mod like Svencoop to finish up. But there are a couple Halflife2 Coop mods out which I haven't bothered to try, you may want to investigate those. [hl2files.com is a good place to check] Also if you wanted the newest Garry's Mod, GMod 10, you'd have to pay something like 10 or 15 dollars. It's a real shame there's no coop, they should have built that into the game on release. I had so much fun with Coop play in the original halflife, it kept me entertained for literally years. But I also didn't find hl2 as fun as hl1 so who knows
  12. quicky update on this situation: I finally got off my butt and went to futureshop with the receipt and everything and they gave me a brand new card and it idles around 41 degrees and doesn't appear to heat up at all under pressure This customer is satisfied
  13. You may want to just look through the "is anyone doing anything" thread in the betamappers section, because there are a ton of pics of maps in there
  14. To be honest I'm no good at screen shots but the last build of my map is on the betamapper repository
  15. That's great! I'm glad to hear it I hope you guys got lots of exposure and cheers
  16. I installed the game using the CDs when I first got it, and as long as you have absolutely no internet connection [sometimes I'd have to disconnect the chord from the back of my computer] it would work. When you start up it will pop up with a box that suggests to try connection again or work in offline mode, click offline mode.
  17. I've heard the books are really good, and that the movies stink haha I think I may give the books a try, I'd like to know how it ends so feel free to pm me any spoilers
  18. These are excellent! I'm definitely going to try and create some of these!
  19. I think those little things would be great for indoor areas to add life to counters ect ect. A lot of the time I feel like there isn't enough things to place onto tables.
  20. Oh my those are awesome! What program are you using to make these?
  21. yes @ Springheel Yes I guess it seems that way, we could attempt this for a mini-mission set from the betamappers. The menu of course would be a level which the mapper would have the option to go to at the end, or have go to a different level.
  22. If anyone remembers how Perfect Dark was setup, we could try for something like that.
  23. Well it is a great idea I think we should attempt. The nice thing about it is that every mission will be different as expected so individual mapper styles will not matter. Perhaps if everyone likes this idea, I can work on it and when we release the mod, we can use it as a hub for all the mission we release in the mod
  24. I think what would be really cool in terms of a city hub in TDM would be to have the entire menu intractable through GUIs in your player's house. So when you finish a mission, your brought back to your hide-out/house, and perhaps this place can also be a tutorial of sorts to introduce the player to the game, like an area to show off how to climb rope arrows or to practice archery. An outside wouldn't even be necessary. But I think it would be really cool if you accessed options, save/load and new game ect ect by clicking on it on a piece of paper on a desk in-game as a player. Of course we could always add onto it by adding an outdoor area later if we felt this was necessary. By doing this setup we would allow those that hate the go-to-mission type gameplay, as in T3 to simply click a paper and go to the next mission, while those that like to spend time preparing in-between missions to be able to do so. [perhaps a merchant could be accessed outside]
  25. I already know from beta-mapper that we have street thugs, civilians and hired guards [which look far less professional than city watch] So most of everything you'd want is already implemented
