  1. One could say the same about God then if they have experienced the sucesses. Only someone who has not been to lots of science classes would say it requires no faith. After receiving a university degree in a science you would likely change your mind. Science is so contradictory it is not even funny, but what counts are results as you said. Does it matter if the laws of science contradict eachother and cannot be reconciled? Not really so long as they each hold predictive power and the user knows where their limits are and applies them only where they will predict correct outcomes. Anyway, you people are all fiery and excited to get down on people of faith, and it is quite humorous. Why do you care? Did your parents force you to go to church when you were little or something? Do crusaders come to kill your family? Why are you so uptight? The bible is full of contradictions that is true, but I don't understand why anyone would think it was a literal work anyway, I mean it was translated and hacked together for thousands of years if a person expects it to retain whatever coherency it originally had they are deluding themselves. My favorite little contradiction, is when some guy comes to Jesus and asks for him to heal his son, Jesus is like "Well ok bring him in" and the dude goes "Oh he is at home, if you just say it then he will be healed." then it says something like "Jesus was surprised" so for all those that think Jesus was/is God or whatever it must make them wonder why he was surprised if he knew everything... BTW WTH does this have to do with new years?
  2. That is not true, there are many advantaged to PCIe the problem is that game developers will not utilize the new methods offered them by PCIe until AGP is dead for the most part. That unfortunately will take a couple of years. If you are wise you will sell whatever top AGP card you have while they get a premium, and buy a decent PCIexpress system instead. I sold my modded x800pro VIVO on ebay for a decent sum ($325) and did not feel bad about it.
  3. Especially with candles, if you lick your fingers anyone can pinch a candle and put it out immediately, if you have thick calluses you can likely do it without bothering to lick them.

    Rope Arrow

Woah, I do not believe you are aware of all the things that would go o in such a situation. It is easy to wrap a rope around a hand and pressure on it will only tighten the rope around the hand, letting go however is still easy at the end of the swing b/c the pressure is lessened, but it would be impossible at the bottom. As to the "people would let go b/c of the pain" well there was a guy who died climbing when he fell with a rope that was wrapped around his arm and tore it off. If you have ever tied a clove hitch or any type of hitch you would understand what I am saying. You should actually appreciate what I did, which is solve the dillema of how this could be coded to actually reflect reality with minimum effort on the part of those involved. When I last climbed the Grand Teton, a few days before a guide had fallen with a rope wrapped around his shoulder and once again he did not "let go" it simply tore him apart, but if the rope is wrapped you are not going to "let go" until you have already born the brunt of the pain and basically destroyed your body's ability to grasp. So yes it is possible that after you dislocate your shoulder elbow, and maybe retain your flacid arm connected to your body then the rope might slip from your limpid grasp, but it will not come out at the point of impact.

    Rope Arrow

Woah, that is a pretty silly idea IMO, here is why. All you have to do is wrap a rope around your hand, you may tear your arm off, but you won't lose your grip. I would therefore propose to just use it as falling damage. So if you fall too far downward when you only move so far forward you get hurt. In other words they would have to see what you velocity in the tangential direction of the arc was and apply damage, but you definitely would not lose your grip.
  6. I thought you black jacked people at the top of the neck? Depending on the helmet it might not even matter. I have knocked myself out while wearing a helmet twice. Once snowboarding and I knocked myself out hitting soft snow, and the other mountain biking. In both cases I had a good helmet that dissapated the force of the blow across a wider area and one that was padded with materials they did not have back in the day. So trust me you can get knocked out through a helmet. (The snow one I torpedoed into the snow and went in like 5 feet, but I think it compressed my neck and knocked me out, the other was just banging the head after trying to bunny hop across a creek). I think you should allow more player freedom, if a person wants to KO everyone you should not get all up tight about it. Unless you are some religious group forcing people to do it your way or not at all. You want a broader cross section playing the mod, not just a small group. At least that is what I would suggest. The more ways to accomplish a mission the better the replay and the more realistic as well. (Though the uber violence route obviously isn't realistic). To bad you cannot find a good way to simulate climbinb so that something such as climbing a rock wall was feasible. And btw on the meter idea like golf games, that is ok but don't waste too much time on gimmicks like that, most things like that are either just annoying, or you figure out how to do it right every time and it is simply an added boring step. The more you can get the player to think, the better the experience will be.

    The Sky

The skies in hexen edge of chaos that bloodrayne made up already looked incredible and that was before the 1.3 patch. Can you put the sky dome behind the portal sky? So you have an alpha texture or something for the portal sky so mountains and such block the"sky" from the players perspective? Of course then people will try to noclip out to the mountains
  8. Hammer, it is ageia or some such thing, just search for physics car dyou will find it. AND IT WILL NOT WORK. Yes that is correct, it is in the wonderful position of catch-22. It will only work with novedex physics engine, and that is not what is in HL2, or what is in D3 since D3 has their own physics engine. Someone would have to recode the entire physics engine to make it work.
  9. I started screwing around on the castle in the pic, and if it gets good enough I will send youguys a copy maybe you can use it somewhere, or if someone makes the terrain to sit on it will look nice. All I have that I really like now though is the stairs in the guard towers (the ones along the wall) I finally got everything to fit just right so they can be stacked.
  10. Yet I agree, on my crappy laptop at school I had to wiggle it around to see 'em, now it is much more clear.
  11. I was actually writing a story and the castle was in it. I drew the castle so I could describe it. I also tried making it in doom3 but ran into snags. That is a shot from blender, but getting it into doom3 has proven very difficult. I have it now in doom3, but the silly thing is transluscent, and I really have no idea how one would texture it, but it is huge... Anyway if someone here could build the terrain easily, I could make the castle exterior, and obviously for a map like that you would have exterior separated from interior so it could truly be epic in scale...
  12. Err, I don't know if this counts, but I drew it sorry I don't have a scanner...
  13. This seems like a very large diversion from the main thrust of youguys project. But yeah it is pretty interesting. How would you control the moving up and down? If you did it by changing the mass would the physics work correctly? (Nevermind they won't as of now). But it would be nice to make it wallow horribly as airships are not the most responsive things ever. I think the idea of having landing spots designated is good, you could do it this way. Remember the skybox bloodrayne made? Well just have two one for when you look up from the ground, and one looking down from the sky in other words you have one arched above you and one below you and the levels are completely physically disconnected so you teleport like you were saying. Although loading levels might not be terrible either and man you could use it to navigate the city. And if player mods were a certain quality you could just put a stop on the main sky map that lets you off into their mission sequence... nifty
  14. Napoleon Dynamite was actually fairly decent especially in light of the budget, do you have any idea how little they spent on it? No name actors? That alone makes it cool in my book. Though I have only watched it once and don't have a burning desire to see it again. Copland btw I thought was a good role for stallone actually. He is good at playing a has been if you know what I mean
  15. Dude, I cannot believe that this did not pop into my head at the begining, but I think I will pee my pants if someone does it. I have to admit that I was scared playing TDS on that mission, well I don't know I mean not scared, but jumpy Anyway I cannot imagine you will need a disclaimer so no one has a heartattack and blames you

    Crossbow?

I am all for it, and a cross bow actually makes more sense from my perspective. The only thing is the no penalty. Well it just seems unrealistic since they take longer to reload.
  17. Thatis simply annoying and adds nothing. You hit a floor board that creaks so you have to reload and then remember where it was. Whoop dee freaking doo. A visual clue means you have to pay attention, which after all is the whole point. If you like random unpredictable things perhaps they could make a mode where you had a very small chance of being struck by lightning at any time and then die. Boy that unpredictable factor would be good fun. Edit: I see this argument has already been made, but the whole issue is silly. The point is to make a fun game, not a realistic game. Realistically almost all the crap is total bs. Why couldn't you have broad heads and slaughter tons of people? You could and you don't have to hit somebody when they are unaware, if a person is alerted and gets shot through the neck they will die anyway it doesn't matter. The vine climbing wall thing is possible btw depending on the vines, but in my experience vines are notoriously unpredicatable, and might come away at anytime which would make tons of noise and maybe kill you. Climbing a stone wall or even a brick wall is safer. I have climbed buildings made of brick before myself and it worked well enough you just need to actually wear climbing shoes b/c the edges are tiny.
  18. Look at the textures contest thread at doom3world they have almost all the stuff you are askign for already and they look awesome.
  19. So why is jordan crap anyway? Is it the lack of any events in his books? Is it the wandering plot line? Are these things the signs of a desperate man who fears loosing his cash cow? Anyway yeah I read them, but they were kind of sad. Goodkind has all the same cliches that are in fantasy, but in the first books at least things happened and were resolved, IMO a book must be self contained, there is not excuse for it to ramble on and on, kind of like a sentence with no periods that seems to change topics as it meanders down the post, waffling from side to side with no clear attempt at closure, but a simple feeling of regret for things not finished...
  20. Women have more endurance than men though, and can go longer without food
  21. Have you seen Q2DQ? That is quake 2 done quick, it is quite entertaining to watch what the people thought of... @ Oddity I have seen plenty of times in games where it devolves into that. If the levels are intelligently designed that is good and all, but I would rather they were difficult enough I wanted to save often, and rather there were different ways to suceed at different times. It was boring in TDS when there was only one route, and it is easier actually when there is only one way to do something, then you don;t have to think about which is a better idea.
  22. On the topic of saving forcing too few saves is always a bad idea. Think about games that have done this and then been patched to allow more saves. The reason is obvious, it isn't that much fun to play the exact scenario over and over, thus if part of the level is difficult replaying the first part 10 times to get there sucks...
  23. It looks like a mix of a quake 1 and quake 2 mod...
  24. I am not saying you should. However, there are many people who would find that interesting. I asked a simple quesiton "Whether the d3cdit sun script would work with light gem" It would be interesting in my opinion. Sure there are many other options, for example just a timer accomplishes the hurry up as well, but I personally think that there is nothing wrong with sneaking in the daylight, after all it is still dark inside
  25. The sun script from d3cdit might be cool to put in for a day/night thing... Does it happen to work with the light gem still?
