  1. I've made a combined widescreen/fov patch for Thief 3. It's supposed to work in surround modes, but I've only tested that in windowed mode so far. I've found a few testers on TTLG, but no-one with a 3-monitor setup. Is there anybody 'round here who can try it out?
  2. This. Edit: I tried restarting the mission and going straight for the bookshop, with notarget on. And then again using the original .pk4, i.e. not dmap'ed to fix aas warnings on Linux. No change in either case.
  3. Not quite the same thing but I saw that if I clicked left mouse while a readable was on screen: My blackjack hand would stay raised until I clicked attack again. This was playing 'the Transaction', the first mission I've played with TDM 1.04. In previous versions I think I'd get a normal BJ swing if I clicked attack to make a readable go away? I experienced that (see attachment) when I triggered the cutscene with my blackjack out. The sword just appeared. (Is there more than one? What's that on the side of the BJ?). Afterwards I did a few experiments: If I trigger the cutscene with my blackjack out I get the blackjack-sword combo when the Lich Queen attacks. If afterwards I pick up Grenefeld's body, the blackjack part disappears but the sword is still visible. If I trigger the cutscene with my sword out I get the double-sword when the Lich Queen attacks. If afterwards I pick up Grenefeld's body, both swords are hidden. If I trigger the cutscene weaponless, I'm still weaponless when she attacks. I can take out my (normal) sword and take her down. I play on Linux, just in case it's relevant.
  4. Thanks for this mission, it was very enjoyable! I had the sword-and-blackjack-combo bug(?) too, but other than that everything went smoothly. Had to laugh here:
  5. Are you sure TDM is set to use alsa? If I set it to use oss, I get no sound at all... Do you have sound if you shut down pulseaudio manually with 'pulseaudio --kill' from the terminal? (Remember to stick 'autospawn=no' in ~/.pulse/client.conf or it will pop up again like a zombie...) Btw. the version of the script posted above does not take into account that the doom3 process relaunches on mission install, that is corrected in the attached version tdmlauncher.txt
  6. Definitely. My mother's 71 and somewhat technophobic, and she's been a happy Ubuntu user for about a year and a half. It hasn't been flawless, but there has definitely been less maintenance on my part, than when she was on XP. Back then I installed Ubuntu, but changed the panel layout to mimick XP. Today I'd have chosen Mint instead...
  7. Seconded. In this case, since the hardware is old, maybe the LXDE version of Mint is the best option?
  8. Potentially surprisingly good news about id Tech 5: http://www.phoronix...._item&px=OTA3MA Probably 'open source' here means 'open source if you pay $ and sign an NDA.' I hope he's right about Tech 4 going open this summer and not after Rage is launched. Edit: They apparently corrected it already
  9. You're welcome. I forgot to mention that the key-repeat fix is GNOME specific. Hopefully in a year or so, when the Doom3 source is released, this bug (and quite a few other Linux issues) can be fixed the right way.
  10. Going to the audio settings and toggling surround sound a few times will clear the delay, but it's tedious. I use the wrapper script below to disable pulseaudio for the duration of the game. It also disables repeating keys to make leaning reliable. (Attachment removed - update posted below.)
  11. Very enjoyable mission, this! I especially liked... Also,
  12. An alternative is to use taskset, e.g. "taskset -c 0 wine thief2.exe" to run it on core 0. The benefit (on Ubuntu at least) is that you don't need to install an additional package to use it.
  13. You're welcome. Someone who has played through Thief Gold 10 times should definitely be on ttlg... That's probably the most likely explanation. If ttlg had a general problem with gmail, there would be too many complaints to ignore.
  14. OK, I will. I'm pretty sure it was implemented at your request, since he said that he himself didn't really see a need for it. I've only briefly tried the bloom stuff, but with Enable=1 and defaults for the other options the effect is quite pronounced, so it's weird if you don't see anything. The original release announcement says nothing about it not working with TG, so it probably should...
  15. I can post a feature request on your behalf if you want. But if you can summon Bikerdude, I'm sure his words will carry more weight.
  16. So you want the menus and video stretched? But I'm pretty sure the patch you linked to was put in to maintain the original 4:3 aspect ratio of the menus and movies on widescreen monitors. So what you want is probably a new option in the .ini to disable that?
  17. Sorry, I should have warned you about the post-processing stuff being enabled as default. You'd better take it up with jermi when you get on ttlg. If he can fix fog in a few hours, he can probably fix this...
  18. While you're waiting you can try the new 1.5.0...
  19. A consultant from the Inventor's Guild would probably tell you that it's better to make machinery out of metal (But of course wood makes good sense in that particular room.) Is it not possible to mark something as not receptible to arrows? Not very polite, if the player attempts what I did, but maybe better than a dead end?
  20. Finally got around to playing this mission, and I can only agree with all the praise - it is indeed a masterpiece. Good story, believable environment, perfect difficulty. The many keys and readables were no problem at all, I was always fairly certain when a readable was "done", and then I'd just drop it off in my designated reading room... A "D'oh!" moment: Another fine mess I got myself into: Can't wait to see what Farrell will be up to next!
  21. Thanks, I ought to have found that the first time.
