  1. Digital preservation is the idea. It was a half-ruined building condemned years ago, but it had classical proportions and there was a certain beauty to it.
  2. The update is just a bugfix release, which also cuts down on file size by excluding a bunch of resources which weren't in TDM in 2013, but they are in there now. Everything else is identical, so you aren't losing anything. We didn't catch that bug; I have noted it, and if there is another release, it will be fixed.
  3. Here is what I've got: I've got a tight focus of the mission, and am sticking to time-saving construction techniques that don't result in a heavy workload down the line. (Although fewer prefabs than anticipated.)I am keeping details suggestive instead of going overboard with them.I am starting from a very precise visual idea of what I want to build. The mission idea came from a nearby old house that is currently in the process of being demolished (as I walk home from work day by day, I can see how the demo crew has stripped down yet another part of it), and I had a very precise picture of the rest by the time I started to build. Finally, most of my practice is in building city missions (although the upcoming PD3 will be my last for a while), so that helps.
  4. 1) Of course! It is also a wise strategy to slow down your opponents while they play your FM instead of working! 2) How about: AppearanceGameplayHalloweenAnd for ratings (this is important, since we need a common terminology): Scale is on 1-5, 5 is Great, 4 is Good, 3 is Average, 2 is Could be better, and 1 is Poor.
  5. Three more hours, some three hundred extra terrain brushes. This time a mixture of exteriors and interiors. Some detailwork as well. Something really preliminary:
  6. That second one is like a new-school 2d platformer. Never seen the mission from this perspective.
  7. I started tonight, and logged about 2 hours, spending that time building some building facades and a fancy city wall with a tower. More tomorrow.
  8. As suggested by nbohr1more, we've still got time for a very short, focused Halloween contest. I hereby propose the following rules: Make the mission public on Halloween (31 October, Saturday). Prefabs and modules are okay, but don't just relabel a fully built mission you have worked on for five years and call it a submission. There is no rule 3.The deadline should make things neat, simple and focused. Don't build your dream mission (although feel free to build your worst nightmare!), because you won't finish in time. Build incrementally, and focus on getting something short and simple out the door. [edit] I don't know how to turn the poll results public, so please let it be known you are participating. I am participating!
  9. That only causes a leak, not a crash, though.
  10. To add, don't take it too hard if it doesn't happen. Projects like this have a lot of historical weight and a lot of in-depth discussions behind them, and every feature is there for a reason (not necessarily the best one, but at least something representing team compromise). There was a lot of hard negotiation involved behind going down on route or anoter. I have seen people quit collective projects over the climbability of pipes and vines, so you can imagine how hard it is to make decisions that are acceptable for most people. So things like contrast-based visibility probably will not be happening, not because it is necessarily a bad idea, but because it was considered and another decision was taken. Although this gives me an idea of a colour-based stealth game now... which is an odd thought.
  11. I knew somebody would build it, but didn't think it would take so little time!
  12. ...when you read a 4chan thread on Thief, and find a recommended fan missions guide with one of your FMs in the first place... http://i.4cdn.org/v/1444470589913.jpg :D

I want to play all of those lol. I've played some of them, but I missed a LOT of good ones.

Cool. Disorientation deserves its spot there. I know most of these but there a few I have yet to try.

Haha, good to see that you're Anonymous approved. Well done!

  13. Look at this corner stairway: Relatively simple scene, but the meeting of the lighting and the polished wood is something special. Nothing overdone, just a great balance. You could build it in DarkRadiant, and people would love it.
  14. VanishedOne: nice shots, and Springheel is right that telescope is very creative! The wooden texture used for the gallery is also novel, and in the second picture, I like how the light of the window brings out the shadowy contrasts of the balustrade. I would suggest adding just a slight variation to the ground height; it is a bit flat. grayman: Clearly, this is an arcade game where you play a fish (the blue rhombus) trying to eat the plankton and the more nutritious purple plankton (green and purple rectangles) while avoiding the big fish that tries to follow and eat you (the white meshy thing) and the kelp that slows you down (the purple upright things and their filaments). For such early and crude graphics, it is surprisingly addictive.
  15. I particularly like this one. Very Quake 1. Other good contenders: the top left texture here, these stone textures, maybe this leather texture.
  16. I will be happy if I can just replay Deus Ex again without remembering the location of every weapon mod, enemy and datacube. I played Deus Ex too much.
  17. That's rough_blocks_rustyandblue. It is part of the core assets.
  18. I actually thought a lot about those contractions. Serious business. [edit]And by that, I mean I still blew them, and grayman is completely right.
  19. A long, long time ago, I started working on the script for a "Schemer" character; someone who could work as a sophisticated crime boss, corrupt merchant or sinister nobleman. Someone who is a bit like Ramirez from Thief, Edmund Blackadder (although only as comic as TDM in general), or a Shakeaspeare villain - erudite, a bit pretentious, and rotten to his core. We have a few noble sets, but this is a niche that I believe still deserves filling. It is quite hard to write a full vocal set, so it took years to complete, but it is here now, and I submit it for your consideration and feedback.
  20. I don't think so. There are not enough of them to make an effect. I would assume all the shadowcasting lights would be much more important in their performance hit.
  21. Nine including this one. Scary number.
  22. The "go to first unread post" function seems to malfunction on my side. Is it working for everyone else?

I just tested it on your post in the Crucible thread and it worked for me

I am sure it was playing up for me recently on one of my mobile browsers too, but it's working ok now. I use Firefox on the PC, Chrome on the phone (because Firefox for android handles the forum desktop version badly)
