  1. What about the hexen mod? EDIT: http://www.planetdoom.com/edgeofchaos/news.htm They seem to be doing fine.
  2. Well just remember that quake 4 and Quake Wars: Enemy Territory are both based off the Doom 3 engine, and both have several enourmous sized levels with a great deal of open space. (Though it might just be all those MEGATEXTURES)
  3. While i haven't gotten around to playing it yet (the dvd is still staring at me. though i played the demo several times) Brothers in Arms has quite good gameplay, where you spend a good amount of time directing your squad and armor around the battlefield, and can join in on the fight at any moment. There are a few scripted events, yes, but the majority is a fun strategy-fps type gameplay.
  4. Are you sure that's HDR? Cause i'll be damned if that doesn't look exactly like bloom. Oh, and of the three games listed, i'de pick Farcry, both Pariah and ARea 51 were mediocre at best, and Farcry at least adds some free roaming and deeper stragety to it's standard FPS fare. Then they put those stupid mutant monkeys in...
  5. Not sure if you are aware of this, but the forums appear to be running much slower now. I've emptied my cache and everything, so I know that's not the cause.
  6. We stil have to find out if running cuncurrent video clips split apart is even viable though.
  7. Regarding going the way of AVI, the only real issue is file size. If we want a looping street that doesn't look real fake, we're gonna need at least 1 minute of footage. If we can plug codecs into D3, we can just use Xvid, which will allow 1 minute of footage @ 640x480 to only be about 5-7 mb max. If we want a higher resolution, say 1024x768, that's gonna be about 11-14 mb, and so on and so forth. If we can't use Xvid, and have to use Divx or another codec, expect the filesize to likely double. There's also the issue of what perspective the player chooses for the game. If you choose a widescreen (16:9 or 16:10) ratio, the video will either be stretched, or not play at all. You wouldn't have this issue with a game-rendered menu. (which, if it's small, shouldn't take more than 30 seconds to load, even on a minimum spec machine) Also, splitting avi's to later sync in another program tends not work as expected, though it may be different for Doom 3's video textures.
  8. Images of it Before you make any comments though, watch this video: http://www.dagbladet.no/kultur/2005/09/16/443527.html Personally, this is the most i have ever been excited about a console. The 'nunchuka combo' looks like it may be superior to even the keyboard mouse combo for FPS games. And as I've mentioned elsewhere, for swordfighting and sports games, this shit is golden.
  9. I must say, even better than the book in that ingame shot is the candle. It looks f*cking beautiful
  10. "...and of course derailing it killing hundreds of innocents, but hey,.... it's Van Damme" The man can appently cause autism in kids as young as twelve by staring at them intently. holy fuck. Then comes the ALMIGHTY SCISSOR KICK. Wacha! (it should be noted i hate damme, but his movies do tend to stray into the 'so bad it's excellent fun' area) EDIT: Apparently Tripod is being a dick and making the pics not show up, meh.
  11. I can probably garuntee that it won't use steam as that would mean Ubisoft (the publisher) would have to pay even more royalties to Valve.
  12. Source does not equal that it uses Steam, Case in Point Vampire: The Masquerade- Bloodlines. (In fact i would be very very surprised if it used steam, as that hampers their market.)
  13. I felt this was appropriate considering where this thread was going and it's original topic
  14. Edward Gorey's GashleyCrumb Tinies I think burton's actually losing his ability to craft true classics, I mean, look at his earlier stuff (Edward Scissorhands, Batman 1+2, Nightmare Before Christmas, Beetlejuice, Ed Wood) compared to his more recent stuff (Planet of the Apes, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Big Fish, Sleepy Holllow) The former are mostly considered to be semi-classics, of the latter name one that anyone is going to care about ten, or even five years down the road. Scientology is Hubbard not Heinlein. And the original book of Starship Troopers is only similar to the movie in the overall plot, the original actually makes you feel like the Fascist Society works, though in retrospect, i think some aspects of it were somewhat satirical. The movie is good fun though. I'de love to direct Micheal Ironside in a similar role.
  15. I would say don't just throw out the idea though, stick it aside into the "maybe one day" pile.
  16. That was considered a while ago, not sure what came of it, though that might not be a good idea considering our noisemaker is similar to that. I like spring's though.
  17. Basically the way i see it this would be a nice bit of atmosphere for our campaign, as it doesn't really effect gameplay. I would like to see it even as a scripted action however.
  18. I just saw the related thread on ttlg sub, you bastard
  19. fing, if you have a university available locally you might be able to jump on one of their computers and upload via a few cd's you bring with. That's what i did to upload the T2X breifings and cutscenes, as my home has a whopping 11k upload rate.
  20. Just this last week, I received a financial aid notification, that included not only the student loan, but the parent loan (which i don't want) as well. I called them up about it and they said both loans had been somehow "nullified," after trying to get in contact with a particular counselor for a week, it turns out that the student loan was probably never canceled in the first place.
  21. I'm pretty sure those details are already as a bumpmap. Deep O, it's not particularly the size of the feet that matter, but rather their position, even with larger feet, your model would have balance issues, the feet should be more centered, ala:
