  1. I might be able to build the stripped down version, but I may have achieved the same performance with this version.
  2. Yes. I had released that version to fix several performance issues, especially the rain and grass. I removed the animated grass, but got the rain back in. Most other changes are textures and decorations, but there is an AI which now has some new paths. I also moved the guard/key room forward a bit and also moved the workshop doors forward a bit. Else I had an 8 unit thick wall, backed with natural stone of the cave. That looked quite silly. I also could not resist updating the textures. :-)
  3. I posted the release candidate. Any changes left, if any, will be very minor.
  4. Well I did it. I "Lucas'd" Siegeshop yet again. I posted an RC version today. See the Original Post for details.
  5. TDM 2.02 and 2.03 required me to re-look at my released maps. Again. One thing led to another and so, here we go again... This old beast is almost finished for what I hope will be the final time. The changes are mostly aesthetic, but there are some minor map layout changes and some modified AI paths. One more evening of polishing little things and I'll be ready to release it, unless lowenz finds an issue in testing.
  6. Being one who has referred to outdated wiki articles before without knowing better, this helps a lot.
  7. How about dropping specific mission .pk4 files directly into the darkmod directory? Wouldn't that cause any custom assets to become available in DR? Of course you'd still have to unpack/re-pack those assets with your mission. Never mind.
  8. I don't believe I was ever successful from fullscreen mode. When I edit/dmap I run TDM in windowed mode just so I can get away from its window when I need to. I have never used XFCE, but I have found several games running fullscreen under WINE which will respect KDE's run-command dialog (ALT-F2)... I can then tab away. But I did not find TDM to be able to do that using ALT-F2 I always saw it saying to type CTRL-ALT-` for console, but like other iD engine games, I found I only need to type the single ` key. .
  9. I press ` to open the console, then I can mouse away from the TDM window.
  10. Dark Forces...wow, that goes back a bit. I remember an easter egg somewhere, when crouched on top of a crate, with "Ewoks Suck" sprayed on the wall.
  11. My old logitech g500 is still working well after several years of use. It has weights and not too many buttons.
  12. I would suggest trying an Roccat Kone XTD or the new Roccat Tyon. I have no experience with these, but they are supposed to be pretty damn awesome. roccat.org
  13. Unfortunately (and fortunately), I'm working on siegeshop again. I'm mostly restoring the rain, with better methods, but I also cannot resist re-texturing some things. At the most, any upcoming changes will be primarily aesthetic.... BUT along with that I am also looking into performance issues in various areas, as well as softening up some of the more rectangular aspects of the map. Then... no more with this map. Ever. Again. Edit: In my defense of Lucas'ing this map, this is also a good way of getting back into mapping after several months of doing otherwise.
  14. I believe what you are needing to type is as follows: chmod +x tdm_update.linuxfollowed by: ./tdm_update.linuxThe first command sets the update file as executable. The second basically does... "in this directory, run the following". Alternately, in a file browser, you can open your tdm directory, right-click 'tdm_update.linux', choose properties and add a check to 'executable' in the permissions tab. I recommend the first method. LOL, I hadn't read the end of your post. Anyway...
  15. New CPU is 2-core Pentium 3.2GHz cheapo... but it clocked to 4.3GHz without complaining. My system booted with no issues on the first try after moving my drives and gpu to new case, mobo, cpu, ram, and psu. Lots of games to test, but Unigine Valley tested rather nicely in ultra quality, as did lotro. :)

Yes. The Courier, name rhymes with EdFex, did cover the damage (approx $1500). Even after spending an additional $220 to get it up and running, I think I still did alright. I am a bit disappointed with the dead ssd driver, but am looking more forward to getting an m.2 module, which the new mobo fully supports :)

      ssd drive*, not 'driver', obviously

BTW, for the geeks among us, the NZXT Phantom 820 tower, in steel-grey, looks like a Cylon Raider. I'm talking the RDM BSG, not 1978. I'm naming it "Scar", and will show why soon :)

  16. New mobo just arrived. MSI Z97 Gaming 3. If the used CPU (i7 4770) and RAM (32G 1600MHz) are good, this is going to be one interesting night. :) I have an SSD drive and an 1TB WDC Black drive are waiting in the wings as well. GeForce GTX 780 is already working, but currently on 5 year old hardware. Tonight all that changes. Fingers Crossed. I'm Going In.

Was set back a bit... The i7 CPU had been burnt (I bought someone's damaged gaming rig). I spent the other night troubleshooting the psu, case, mobo, RAM, heatsink and CPU. The CPU had been fried by by being turned on in the old damaged motherboard. Got a cheapie dual-core pentium on the way to tide me over until I can spend $$$ on an i7.

  17. I suppose you might try 'r_showtris 1' in the console and put the graphics into wireframe mode until you clear past spiders. And then 'r_showtris 0' after getting past them. They seem far less creepy when in wireframe mode. See the following screenshot:
  18. Strange, because I installed DR just a few nights ago from GIT. I'll try deleting my ~/.darkradiant folder and configure DR from scratch. Ah... I just re-read what you typed. And yes, TDM standalone is now listed. Chalk this one up to user error. All is fine now. Thanks for the reminder. The last time I had checked in previous DR, there wasn't an option for the standalone game.
  19. And... if you plug an USB-on-the-Go adapter into the phone, and an USB KVM switch into that, you can connect full keyboard and mouse. Then output via HDMI to a larger screen
  20. I was just about to post an nearly identical screenshot. LOL. I will anyway.
  21. My distro, Mageia 5a, also has both wxgtk2.8 and wxgtk (3.0.1) installed, along with their respective libraries. But only lib64wxgtku3.0-devel is installed and not lib64wxgtku2.8-devel. So DR had to have been built using the 3.0 devel. I can certainly try to avoid doing the right-click crash in those widgets, but that developers check dialog that pops up seems to have a solution on the link MirceaKitsune posted.
  22. This is 2.0.1-1 x64 linux according to the 'about' dialog. From GIT yesterday. I had been running 2.0x and 1.8.1 (?) in Wine and didn't see that behavior, but previous linux native versions have done the same for me in the past.
  23. Edit: The following was due to my not checking that TDM standalone had been added to the game list. Whenever I run DR I get prompted for the game/mod path settings, which are already set. Textures and all assets work properly. But still DR opens the dialog to set the game path and then another dialog asking if it should correct those settings to point to a doom3 path. I tell it no and can work on maps with no path issues. I though we were beyond this.
