  1. After being "encouraged" by LEGION long enough I bought an Audigy 2 ZS for around 30 Euros an eBay. When compared with my Realtek onboard sound chip, the difference in sound quality is tremendous! And this is even without EAX enabled! So I can only urge you to follow Noisycricket's advice and buy an Audigy 2 or SoundBlaster X-fi for cheap. You won't regret it.
  2. hall.jpg has a floating readable next to the candle, otherwise the screenies are fantastic and very promising. Can't wait till March!
  3. Oh right, there's that, sorry, I forgot about that. Also, my old mobo had a digital display that showed an error number, which was waaay more convenient. But after re-reading lost_soul's statement I'm not sure there is any beep message at all. Anyway, replacing the current gc is the way to go.
  4. Which might not be possible if the display is garbled. Anyway, I did have that same problem with my ATI Radeon X700 laptop, and I had the mainboard switched.
  5. I'd say it sounds a lot like a graphics card error. Try installing the 9800GT and see where it goes from there. Nvidia had (and I think still has) problems with the packaging of its GPUs (visit semiaccurate.com, you'll find a wealth of articles on that topic), so in that ventilation-free environment it could very well be that the GPU was tortured to death. In any case it would be nice if you could give us an update once you have the new card installed.

    Deus Ex 3

There is a out. I really like what I see.
  7. Is there an automated way to create the cfg file, or do I have to type all the command lines myself? Like this: dmap game/alpha.map dmap game/beta.map dmap game/gamma.map And I have another question: is there a way to enforce a resolution of 1920x1200 in Doom 3? TDM does support it, but in the D3 menu it maxes out at 1600x1200.
  8. Hi guys, seems one of my Doom 3 mods screwed up the AI's pathfinding in the maps. The best advice I've got is to run runAAS for the map(s). When this didn't work, I did a complete dmap for the map I was on, and the pathfinding was fixed. However, using the dmap command I could only dmap one map at a time. Is there any way to dmap all maps at one?
  9. Uhm... why not use the best of both worlds and have killhour's texture together with a translucent white foam texture combined with Bikerdude's particle shower? I think that would make quite a realistic impression. Just my two cents.

@Midnight: I honestly can't complain about the Steam support. I got my answers in time (mostly after 1 or 2 days) and most of the time they were helpful. Of course, there are companies that do much better (Amazon immediately comes to mind), but considering that there are much worse examples, Valve/Steam does okay. About the greedy part, well, Left 4 Dead 2 being more of a next episode than a full game might warrant that view...
  11. ...or tortured your CPU with Core2MaxPerf or Prime? That would be my suggestion.

I've added you as a friend in Steam and all you have to do is invite me to your group. Then we'll just need an additional 800,000 members, and the darkmod group will be the biggest one on Steam!
  13. Okay, so then why is that Z pass so important to the AA and AF? I mean, looking at LEGION's screenshots I decided to give it a try, but I'd still like to know where exactly the problem lies. Niels, can you go into detail?
  14. Oh god, please make this work. It would solve all my problems with the modified Doom in an instant. Besides, Niels, do you know if Sikkpin has also AF fixed?

    scary games

LOL "Süßes oder Saures!" But yeah, I think so too. If they'd at least had the decency to name it Samhain... but no, American culture by definition has to be FTW, right?
  16. Say, is there any way to "downgrade" the EAX level for TDM to EAX 2? My Realtek onboard chip does support EAX 2, so I wouldn't need to buy an additional sound card.
  17. You mean you are not sucked onto the other side of the screen? Then how can you enjoy games like TDM? After all, they are all about immersion. I mean, when playing an FM I *am* The Thief, or the Space Marine in Doom3 or whatever. With movies it's similar: if a (horror) movie doesn't manage to immerse me, if ultimately failed.
  18. I stopped watching this movie after a few minutes because I couldn't bear it. Really, it totally made me freak out. How can ppl watch these movies and be completely calm?!? Anyway, what about those Japanese horror flicks like Audition, Dark Water or Ringu? Scared the hell out of me.
  19. Bikerdude, can you plz re-upload your screenshot? Nothing to see atm.
  20. Also, for the fans of visual eye candy there is Phobos. This screenshot just looks awesome, those guys know what they are doing. Definitely a mod that is worth the wait.
  21. You know, when I read the topic headline about the revolutionary invention, I immediately remembered this: which was probably developed by this guy:
  22. To be honest, when watching the cinematic text-briefings that some FMs use, I always feel a little rushed. I'm not a native speaker, so I often find myself wishing there was a pause button of sorts. That's why I think that Sotha's idea is simply brilliant. I can take all the time I need ans read at my own pace. In the end, giving the mapper the choice between the cinematic "flowing" briefing and the "paged" briefing is the way to go. Just my two cents.
  23. Hi guys, maybe you who like "Amnesia" are happy to hear that the popular German games magazine Gamestar gave this game 80 Points (of 100), especially mentioning that no game has every conveyed such utter horror as "Amnesia" did. I really do hope that this will boost the sales. Although I'm not sure if I'll ever play the game (I did have nightmares after playing The Cradle in T3), I wish those swedish guys the best of luck.
  24. Can you tell if you have a Windows or Linux system? I seem to remember that you have to be careful with upper case letters in the Linux version. In that case Tels is the guy to talk to.
  25. I second that! Pleeze! And thanks for the hard work!
