The transformer seemed to be blocking the door, but of course it opens when I actually walk up to check I tried finding a way to get into the general's home without breaking the glass, ended up finding an extra bit of loot. The door is being a little weird; I broke in, grabbed the key and unlocked it, now it won't close. The handle just jiggles when frobbed. Climbing the lions also works as a way into the shops; I helped the shopkeeper on the bottom clean up some broken vases that were blocking the door, which let him go in and out. I'm still trying to figure out the clue for the alarmed pieces up top: I was also able to get into the sewer and found something interesting; do I need to deliver the item or the note somewhere? there is a locker by the Builders' sanctuary, and a chest in the Watch captain's office I can't unlock either

I've explored more, now I feel a bit stuck. I have an electrician's key, but can't find the station. there's a door to the army(?) building I can't pick or find a key for. I got on the roof, but no luck entering there. I saw some scenes through vents that feel important, but can't reach. the inventor in the shops is in a loop opening and closing his door, so I don't think I can get in there...

I don't see a qconsole.log in the FMs folder or yearofrat. darkmod.log is mostly 0s

I spent just a few minutes playing before a crash by the church; how do I look up logs? specs: ryzen 9 7900x, 32gb ram, windows 11 pro; geforce rtx4060ti I noticed several shadows were popping in and out with only medium distance; the shiny floors seem a bit too shiny for the world (like, even the grout between tiles is reflective) and probably aren't helping the engine. I also had the Dark Mod intro video on loop, as reported by frost_salamander. Going back in I noticed some pathfinding issues around City Hall: the guard on the balcony across from the old tower seems stuck to the doorframe, and the mayor was just walking in circles around his room. Also the lantern wires are "sticky" - I thought I could walk across them, but I fell partially into a lantern and had to noclip out of it.
-
I had already checked there and picked open that lock. I think both of them should have required a key, but maybe that would have been annoying to try to find. This mission is done a disservice by Dark Mod not having a map that supports note-taking. Thank you for making us a City section to play in, and helping us here!

somehow the quote box has precluded adding my own text, but I wanted to say I found the hint but never found the location mentioned. Many of my thoughts about the mission (story-light, exploration-heavy) have been posted, but I wanted to acknowledge the reference to The note on the door made me think I needed a key from the Watch Captain so I trekked over there to find I found a foul-smelling key once I was inside, can I have a hint where to use it?

this was a tough one! It took a week, on and off, so some things might have been changed but I was in progress with v1 and didn't want to start over. as much as I love a Thieves Highway and snaking through tertiary structures, I kept running against barred doors and being confused as to where to go next. (At one point I decided to noclip through the door and work backwards to where I was stuck.) Sometimes it was simply not realizing I could catch and climb a narrow ledge. I finally turned AI Hearing down all the way with this mission; its been an issue for me with Dark Mod, but here I felt they could hear me from a block away (or stories, in the tavern) and it was unfair/unfun. Is there a way of escaping after finding Clarice in the Tower? Thankfully I quicksaved before but if I hadn't I don't know that I would have put together what I needed to do from hints in readables. There's a fine line between obtuse and obvious, maybe its just because my playthrough was spread over some time. I still really enjoyed the mission, thank you so much for the work you've put into creating this world and the experiences for us!

Fan Mission: Footloose Museum Theft (V.2)
hightide replied to Goblin of Akenash's topic in Fan Missions
I understand this is a first effort, everyone starts somewhere. No surrounding buildings makes it seem to take place in a weird void; maybe start in vents and don't have balconies if you don't want to do exterior buildings? AI vision and hearing seemed super-human, and their voices too close; maybe sound propagation needs work? I stepped on the mat outside and everyone went on alert due to the metal CLUNK. No way to turn off lanterns (pet peeve of mine). Metal floor in second room was overkill, especially without providing moss arrows. No way to avoid damage when dropping to sewers, no way back out once down. A rope arrow and a beam above would solve both issues. I got down there without the leg, realizing too late I'd have to start over (at least its short). Some signage for the leg, since its the new feature at the museum, would be appropriate - or making it more centrally located and adding light switches to be able to snag it without notice. The gate at the end goes into inventory rather than opening, which seemed weird I look forward to your second effort, Goblin! -
Fan Mission: A Winter's Tale by Bikerdude (2024-11-30)
hightide replied to nbohr1more's topic in Fan Missions
this one had a great atmosphere, but I had a hard time navigating it. I used the notarget cheat because I couldn't move around the streets without making a small noise someone would hear across the map and come running, then eventually used the noclip cheat because I tried to climb on things that weren't solid (a rope, a street light, etc) and kept falling. I needed help finding the last of the neighbors - not their home but the chest within it (it was behind a door that could have opened the other way). I also needed help with the safe combo; I would never count on something easily movable by a resident/servant to be the key to a puzzle. I'm thankful for bikerdude & co's work, but this one ended up being frustrating for me. -
I found the one that doesn't do anything, but not the one that works time to load it back up. there was also an issue with the puddle in the northern tunnel of the lowest level not reflecting the ceiling properly from some angles. this was a fun one; a bit of sneaking around at the beginning, followed by a bit unrepentant destruction at the end. I liked the AI wearing items in a way I hadn't seen before!
-
I'm also seeing Z-fighting on triangular patches of grass all around the yard. The larger statues are so shiny they look like they are made of ice. I like that the water is being funneled down the stairs, but it just stops before the last step which breaks the effect. Whenever I walk into an outbuilding my steps sound like they are wading through water; is there in invisible layer, or is that a weird ambient from outside? It certainly feels dark & stormy, so success on that front! Now to head inside...

Fan Mission: Volta III - Gemcutter [15th Anniversary Contest]
hightide replied to kingsal's topic in Fan Missions
this was a very impressive mission! lots to see and do, fun hidden objectives, and very well built. I found all the secrets! but somehow, I missed the code for the wine shop storage. where should I look for that? -
Fan Mission: Volta III - Gemcutter [15th Anniversary Contest]
hightide replied to kingsal's topic in Fan Missions
this is a very impressive mission! I've gotten physically stuck a couple places, most notably in the wall of the cargo hold office with this one caused a crash, though maybe it was the quick load crash mentioned above when I tried to reload a bit back from it? I will investigate tomorrow. -

Thank you both for the help. I was trying to see numbers instead of counting. Not sure if I missed a more explicit clue, just saw Did this not confuse beta testers? Maybe I'm extra special... ---- Mission 5: I've picked up the copper fuse, but the doors out seem to both be broken. I don't see any switches or hatches that would give me an alternate exit... -

okay, I had missed Jonas' office for two reasons: now I've found his combination clue document but I'm still having trouble interpreting it: -

apparently in British English it can be pronounced to rhyme with "kitchen" but they are wrong about a lot of things https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lichen#Etymology_and_pronunciation Of course I forgive you for the poem. Finding rhymes is hard, especially in another language. I don't remember the context of the lines in the poem, but I could try to rewrite them if you want. I'm currently at the inventor's guild house, struggling with the combination to the elevator. I found a clue to look in but I can't make heads or tails of it. Something in the -

Mission 2: Without hints here on how to get past the waterworks, I probably would not have figured it out. That seems like a new/underused element that needs a little more introduction. This seems like a very long mission. There were a couple confusing wordings, such as lichen being pronounced as "kitchen" instead of "liken" and the last lines of the poem (foe/stew) not rhyming. -

Sorry if this has been asked, I can't find it by searching: In mission one, where do I find the ship model Razor Crest? Also, I had to use the show_keys command because a certain key fell through the floor. I might be playing the old version. -
FM Release: Sneak and Soufflé - April Fools mission (01.04.2024)
hightide replied to Goldwell's topic in Fan Missions
yes, I can see what I need to do but can't accomplish it. I can't drop the item from inventory, it can't be used on plates or anything in the area... updated to 2.12 and got it to work. might have also been user error -

my mistake, when I went to Blockbuster for Moving Day 2 I accidentally picked up the Asylum release "Moving Day Too" - it had almost the same box art, such misleading packaging should be illegal -

I obtained the coin and the mission ended. This was an interesting experiment, but I feel I'm missing something.
