  1. Great to have your enthusiasm on the forums Jinix. I should have another go at this FM - it was one of the earlier ones I played and I remember really struggling with it. From your description maybe I should go into it with more of a Dishonored approach.
  2. It's not predominantly a horror FM, but RPGs 'In Remembrance Of Him' has one of the scariest moments in any FM ever....
  3. And the scary thing is, presumably it must work - i.e. enough people actually click on the links and then 'buy' something to make it worthwhile - ??? Which frankly makes even less sense than what you guys were talking about beforehand....
  4. Thanks BD, that's really encouraging (and reassuring). I do feel a bit hamstrung by not having a studio, so I'm limited to copyright-free sounds I can find on the internet, but freesound has done the job so far. Springheel - I'm happy to carry on working on all the remaining sounds in your first post if no-one else wants to take any. The only problem is the vault_clock_ambient - I can't find it in either in DR or the D3 pak files. Which folder is it in?
  5. And finally the m3 start & end sounds which did my head in a bit : - https://soundcloud.c...pu_m3_start-end Unless I hear otherwise, I'll assume the sounds I post are "in the ballpark" enough to be usable. Any comments/feedback/suggestions for improvements very welcome.
  6. Momentarily got my hopes up, but then I thought
  7. Back to TDM after a mild obsession with Dishonored and oh the blessed relief of being able to dump bodies without worrying about those wretched rats...

Heh.. I can clearly see how Dishonored could be an obsession for the Spidern00b.. ;)

  8. For now I'll have a go at (i) loop_machinery_01 & 02, and (ii) m3 start/stop as well. Edit: loop_machinery_01 - https://soundcloud.c...op-machinery-01 Edit #2: loop_machinery_02 - https://soundcloud.com/simplen00b-1/loop-machinery-02
  9. Just downloaded some files and playing around with them now for loop_machinery sound
  10. Just done a search for loop_hum_01 and I've found three, one in each of the following folders: \pak003\sound\ambient \pak003\sound\ambient\electrical \pak003\sound\lightsWhich is the one that needs replacing? (Or do they all need replacing?)
  11. Really glad they sound OK. @Sotha - I listened to the original sounds in DR, hunted around on Freesound until I found one or more sounds that sounded similar and then did some editing in Cool Edit 2000 or Audacity (mainly trimming & normalizing, maybe some basic filtering to boost or cut some frequencies). For the elevator door sounds I mixed an old elevator door with a heavy slamming metal door to make it more like the original. BTW, all the source sounds for these are licensed under the Creative Commons 0 License - i.e. public domain - so no need to give credits (but I may drop them a line just to let them know anyway).
  12. You got me. It was my 227th go. (j/k) I've uploaded another set of sounds for the elevator/generator/light hum: https://soundcloud.c...one-replacementInterested to know if you think the generator is "in the ballpark" (I'm fairly happy the others are). To my ears the D3 generator is quite Star-Trekky/futuristic - I looked around for something similar with no success so I ended up using the sound of an actual diesel generator.
  13. First go at cpu_m3_loop: http://beta.freesoun.../sounds/181011/ Made using a mix of these two sounds: http://beta.freesoun...a/sounds/48353/ http://freesound.org.../sounds/138205/ which are both under the Creative Commons Attribution Licence, so if the sound is usable we'll just need to credit them. Started working on the elevator door noises, hope to have something uploaded after the Easter break.
  14. New desktop background (the last one). Beautiful shot.
  15. Video here: http://youtu.be/9i1KaWauv2Q Re AI only reacting if the door handle is actually moving - seems a bit odd to me. If I was an armed guard and saw someone crouching in front of a door trying to pick the lock, I wouldn't wait until I heard the tumblers turning before I 'investigated' (with my big hammer). And thanks for the comment on the avatar - I really like it too. It's the Dishonored icon with some colour tweaking and rotated 180 degrees. (I think it looks like a bird too. A bird singing. Which I really like, given where it came from. )
  16. Had a play around - drawing a weapon, stealing the bottle and going into the forbidden area always caused them to attack. However the lockpicking was a lot more hit and miss - sometimes they attacked, sometimes they didn't. One little detail I noticed was that when they did attack, it only seemed to be when I started successfully lockpicking - if I was trying with the wrong lockpick, they never seemed to be bothered. I've got a video of them ignoring a lockpick if it's of any help. At first I thought it was because I was huddling in the corner to the left of the door, but once I did a full-on crouch-right-in-front-of-the-door-lockpick and they still ignored me.
  17. New DLC announced: http://uk.ign.com/ar...a132e6410000005
  18. I think they both sound better - personally I prefer the less steam version but both sound good to me.
  19. That 5-star 'Helps me zone out' review is genius.
  20. I listened to the ss in DR, then did some searches on Freesound to find similar sounding stuff. Found some files that I thought had bits we could use (with some editing/tweaking/processing) for some of the shaders, namely cpu_m3; d3dm5 generator; elevator doors; and light_hum. I'm happy to work with these and put time into them when I can (hoping to have some time off in a few weeks and give them some quality time then). I'll do a report back in a month or so on my progress - any good? If you're interested, these are the files I bookmarked for the above ss. I'd be interested in whether anyone thinks I'm in the right ball park or miles out. : - After spending about 30 minutes trying to recreate a hum in Cool Edit and not getting there, that's quite reassuring to read. I assume the Attribution License allows editing/processing as long as we credit the source file - ??? Also, on a technical note, does the length of each sound file need to be identical to the original, or just close?
  21. I come to pledge my utter obeisance to The Dark Mod Conspiracy Scheme Plan Thing, and my undying allegiance to its All-Powerful OverLordMinds. Today - TDM. Tomorrow - THE WORLD. The day after that - TDM again. (Or it will be when I stop playing Dishonored.) To all who seek to impede our Cause or stand in our Path - the pangolins await.
  22. Also came across this (Three Extreme Approaches to DH): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQ22nBdeugY He follows up his "Oh Dear What A Terrible Accident" idea with his 'No Trace' series, which starts here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXv748NFKVY Some of his assassinations are ingenious. Voiceover also very funny.
