  1. I wasn't referring to the easter egg. I meant the boss chamber. I do know however that the easter deals with a brick and then you et other stuff which I don't want to spil. I haven't had time to go look for it. I didn't do it last night cuz it was 5 am and I was a lil delirious just getting off work. This game has an intense atmosphere so it's better to play when one is well rested.
  2. Hello again, Let me know if and when you need a bit of creative inspiration. Today was the last day of my holidays but I should have some free time in the summer if anyone wants to get their hands dirty with a complete mission or something. I keep checking the website now and again anyhow. There's usually something impressive to spur on the imagination. Keep up the good work, guys. If only we had a few Dromed scripters available for the Hammerite Imperium......anyone interested, or should I say, not ridiculously busy? Just out of interest, Fingernail, I visited your website (nice!) and read about your guitar skills. Congratulations on reaching the final! If it's BBC, it's got to be quality.
  3. Hello all, I signed up a while ago but I've never actually posted anything. Fingernail and Macsen know me from the Hammerite Imperium campaign where I've been the lead writer for pretty much the whole time. After finally getting hold of a copy of TDS (it's taken me this long to get an updated PC with all the specs plus a copy of the game), I took a second look at the project and thought it might be nice to get involved. To be completely honest, I'm no longer the sort of person who has tremendous amounts of time to devote to the project so I don't want you to think I'm going to be able to reinvent the wheel, so to speak. I qualified as an English teacher last year and it takes a hell of a lot of my free time away. What I am saying, though, is that I would like to help out with any theory, plot elements, bits of writing and voice acting that you may need doing. All of these I have been doing at the Hammerite Imperium for a number of years. Anyway, I'll keep this short and sweet. As I say, I won't be online all of the time and HI is still my primary concern as it's mainly my plot that's being used but after having written little bits at the weekend (probably inspired by TDS and this excellent, long-standing community) I found out that there was life in the old thief yet and that there were still things to explore about this game. Let me know how I can be of use.
  4. yes - edit: no, didn't see the last post from today! I'll test the new one.... as I read through it again, I noticed that post from squill: I'll pm squill and ask him to upload maya5.
  5. In that thread, you linked to, the last posting points to a Maya 7 import DLL. Did you already try this one? I found a torrent for Maya 6, so I'm downloading this one. If you say that this DLL works, then I stop it, though.
  6. I posted links to many of these last year but didn't get much response. Why not? If they are good quality, free for noncommercial use, and save us some time, I think we'd be foolish NOT to use them. I don't know how much time it takes to get them game-ready--that's why I need other people to look at them first--but it has to be less than doing it from scratch. Since skinning models semms to be our slowest area, it seems like the ones that are already textured would be extremely useful. Check these out: Yes, please get those mansion models that you did that haven't been skinned yet onto the ftp site for BT.
  7. i added a new folder to the ftp called 'Video Concepts' and put odd's video there, his last one.
  8. yeah we could, i mean it would be nice to have it somewhere... i still have odd's old loader screen for the games ( the gears one ) which looks good for that purpose. i mentioned in another thread about having some kind of logo for the team.. it could be used for that also. for instance.. the splash screen could start, then that clock vid with new text that say's "broken glass studios" and at the bottom "presents..." let it play for some time.. maybe 8 seconds.. have it fade out.. then play the darkmod intro movie.. or something. its still a good video, might as well use it somewhere. i have a recropped avi that i made out of odd's last one, its at 512x512 which shows the clock more close.. but its 85 meg's in size.. if you want odd's old one, i can up that to the ftp for you pak.. EDIT: actually.. another good place for that vid would be in the credits screen.. like have it play and then overlay the credits on it.. scrolling.. or fading in and out at different places... so many places we could use it.
  9. I brought this up the last time the textures were reorganized, but I was over-ruled.
  10. @ dom are the normalmaps included? otherwise it won't help much, since it'd be almost impossible to recreate the normalmaps without the highres model. I just learned the very basics of rigging last night, so yes I hope I'll be able rig characters and get them ingame soon...I just need an older version of maya @ spar don't really get what you mean? do you already have maya 5 on a disc or what?
  11. here's a last update from myside before going to bed: the maya md5 importer works - I haven't importet any of oddity's files yet, but I tested it with the swinglight from id and it worked fine - all bones are there and work. 2nd thing is the bad news: the dll for maya7 doesn't seem to work. I did a search on doom3world and it looks like the error message I get is well known. quite lot people using maya 7 reported about it......looks like we have to get maya6 goodnight
  12. That reminds me of an actual story a polish collegue told me last year. I don't remember exactly which date it was, either 30th of October or 1st of November. Either way, they are both religious hollidays to commemorate teh dead ones. Polish people are notirously religious, much more like other european countries. So there was an american supermarket chain, and of course, as they do since many years now, they try to invade into public hollidays more and more. Additionaly, this date is Halloween in America, which is nowadays used more like a fun festival and the origin seems already to be lost to most of the public. And this chain, since being of american origin, started an advertising campaing that they have open on this day, and even better, they did it in such way to make fun of it (because of the halloween spirit). My collegue told me that most people were pretty much pissed of about this, because this is a day to be sad. The bottom line is, that the marketing totally ignored the cultural thinking and got quite a bad effect out of it. Of course economists should include cultural background. If you deal with a very religious and traditional group, to raze a small building in order to help thousands of people may be totally out of the question, because this particular building might mean much to them. While the same to some other group may mean nothing despite a similar background (just an example). So ignoring such issues is suicide.

Last time I browsed their site, the opened on every single page. That's why they were so annoying that I quit browsing it, and never came back. Maybe it is because I'm browsing from my company IP and it doesn't work for some reason for me.
  14. Just on the last point, I like www.artchive.com, which has a pretty extensive collection of free, downloadable art. But it's not a wallpaper site per se, and the quality might vary across pieces depending on what you want ... but I've always used it for my backgrounds, I guess just because it's such an extensive collection in one place and still free.
  15. Ey drumple, you got my last PM with the image?
  16. Two more, ok 3 more, quick points (slash book recommendations ... sigh, there are just too many these days) while I'm thinking about them, (1) A good synoptic overview of the architecture of the mind and how neurons work together to make cognition is a book called Enchanted Looms (can't think of the author now). (2) Terrence Deacon's "Symbolic Species: Coevolution of Language and the Brain" answers a question that had always stumped me and that someone's post just reminded me: why don't animals have simple languages? It's always either all or nothing (or at best the proto-language of sign-language chimps, which is at any rate not natural) ... there's no slow, gradual development of language like many important cognitive features, just wham, seemingly out of the blue, and this is arguably the most important aspect of human cognition! This book tells a story about how brains started for the first time in evolution being able to handle "representations" of ideas in addition to the ideas themselves, like treating them as abstract concepts, which opened the door to using symbolic representaitons of the ideas, i.e., language. Very illuminating. (The Lopsided Ape by Cornalis or something like that is another good book in this vien, which locates language's origins in the freeing of the hands with bipedalism as trees died out in East Africa 2 million y.o., leading to representationalism as we can begin to manipulate objects *as objects to be manipulated* (like tools) because now we can properly get our hands on it.) (3) Glumcher's book I mentioned before on Neuroeconomics does a great job of showing why the neural-net paradigm isn't the right paradigm for human cognition (even if it can play a helpful supporting role), because it would assume all cognitive features are like S/R functions, that is, reflexes, see X: do Y (although usually more complicated than that, but also no more than that) ... which is the classic foundation of psychology a la Pavlov and his salivating dogs, but has been undermined for the last 10 years with the idea we're talking about now, that the brain is actually "designed" to be goal-oriented according to the pressures of natural selection and, as people like economists have long known, human decisionmaking embeds more metalevel computations like relative expected utility into just about all decisions, so more has to be going on. (Then if you wanted to go the next step in this line, there's a book by Dan Ross called Economic Theory and Cognitive Science which unites all these ideas right with Dennett. I loved it, but you need to do a bit of background work in economics to follow it.) I actually wish I could get back into grad school to keep studying this stuff, seems so much more interesting and useful for the world than the legal work I'm doing now.
  17. Yeah. I know. But it's used in a number of different applications that support it, so I would expect that some converters exists. Hope dies last ...
  18. Very strange indeed. That's the same card I have, except it's an agp 8x version. So basically it just artifacts all the time and is not even overheating? If this is the case then I would very quickly go and see the person who sold it to you and demand a refund or replacement. Last time my card was doing artifacts (another older card) it died a week later.
  19. Any old fans of TR owe it to themselves to try this demo out. I've spent the last hour with it, and it seems really well put together. Supposedly under a new developer (someone mentioned Legacy of Kain, but I don't know anything about that) and obviously a new graphics engine. It looks really good and plays well. They've changed some things in the control scheme - no longer are you locked onto blocks, and there's finally mouse control. I remember when I first started up the original Tomb Raider, some 10 years ago, and as soon as I saw the theme (tomb raiding, duh) the graphics, the water, the gameplay, I actually said out loud to my old room, like a silly sentimental fool, "I've got a new game!" and smiled. Well playing this demo (I only just got up over the waterfall and started using the binoculars), I just said to myself, "I've finally got a new Tomb Raider." Dorky, but hey, just being honest. Anyway, I don't know anything about this game really, as I haven't been following development - I quit on TR after TR2 when it all went to shit. So I don't know about the locations. But I'm sure hoping it's mostly TOMB RAIDING (duh) and less high tech, buildings and cities, human v. humans with guns crapola. Here are some mirrors from Blue's: http://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/board.pl?...flatnew&start=0 I sure hope it doesn't have starforce. And hey, what's up with that water? Why is it that TRL has great water effects on my GFTi4600, but Doom3 doesn't? Bah. Lack of shader support mine arse.
  20. Last Days? Nah have'nt tried, will check it out too, thanks
  21. Hey, someone played M&B here! That game absolutely rules! Did anyone try the Last Days mod, Tolkien-like?

Most peole have been doing little to nothing for weeks and months. The project is slowly grinding to a halt, that's what I think. Everyone has reached their boredom and attention span saturation levels. I think if you listed out the amount of actual work produced in the last two months it would make pityful reading. .
  23. Clock looks pretty good Oddity, but these last screens with the ingame shots on the sides are not that great. The forest/city got way more character. (Also, why are you using the low-res parchment backdrop? There is a high-res version in the first post of this thread) Also, I'm still not convinced doing the GUI as a video file is at all a good solution. Explain to me how the FM author will customize the level loading GUI with his own screenshot? It's simply not possible. There is not one GUI in Doom made like this, so why are we doing it? A simple animated model of the clock would be better, wouldn't it? It would also not be restricted to 512x512 res, which, no matter how you do it, will look pretty crappy.
  24. I still like the idea of having more than just the clock present. The forest and city images help provide a thematic context to the game. Pak or I can always add them in later if you're done with it. Doesn't look like you used Dark11 on the last version at the top...unless you didn't use caps? The clock itself looks excellent, but I don't understand why we need a progress indicator. Isn't this for the game-loading screen only?
  25. $US, and I just bought it last night .
