Red eye removal

Can anyone recommend a good red-eye removal program? Ideally something that can work with batches of files rather than requiring individual attention.

Computer vision is advanced enough these days that it should be possible to do a half-decent job. I'd be surprised if there's nothing suitable out there. If not, would make a good weekend project (oh god that sounds arrogant).

My games | Public Service Announcement: TDM is not set in the Thief universe. The city in which it takes place is not the City from Thief. The player character is not called Garrett. Any person who contradicts these facts will be subjected to disapproving stares.

I can't imagine this will be very easy. After all you'd have to develop an algorithm, which performs without any a-priori knowledge about the person (eye-color) or the lens and all other factors that the red-eye effect is dependent of.

I am sure a lot of things can be reconstructed from the image though, e.g. lens-distortion, directional lighting, but not all...

Most red-eye removal programs/plugins I've encountered usually replace the red with a neutral grey, which is fine for the most part but a person with dark eye colour will unfortunately have gone albino. Nonetheless, it is certainly better then having evil red eyes :D

Try Picasa, when it works, it works decent enough. (it might even have improved in the last year since I tried it)

Looking at some red-eye images, it looks like the iris (the coloured bit) is generally preserved, at least for the most part. The pupil is the bit that gets turned red, and the pupil is always black.

I'm not saying you'd get perfect results, but if you just want to do a large batch of files quickly without worrying too much about individual quality then it might be acceptable.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
