Next updates step by step

Hello!

 

I have a little question(suggestion...). Would you mind telling us what are your priorities when it comes to next updates, so what are you workin on and other stuff. Then the community could verify here the lsit of things (add something) and after lets say one month (maybe less) of discussion, we would give you the list of our priorities with explanations. I would sum it all up and make the community's list. That could clear some things up.

 

I noticed that you are drowning in questions and suggestions so I guess one big list from community would be nice and easy to read(or at least easier then 40 pages threads).

 

This could also be good for the community to know clearly in which directions your work goes.

From my understanding many of these details are internal because the team have some major improvements in the works and want to surprise and delight the community (although some of these "surprise features" have slipped out a bit if you know where to look... ;) )

it's also probably to late to suggest/expect changes in 1.03. I think we too close to wrapping up the update projects and getting them packaged, adding more stuff to that now would just delay it.

 

the major addition is the women and their voice packs.

 

alot of the other stuff is tweaks regarding models, textures, etc...

 

I think Tels LOD system will be included, which for players won't be visible anything. But will give authors the chance to make better wide open nature scenes perform better. It also has the possibility to make all maps perform better but we need more lod models before that'll really make a difference.

(swaps out high poly models for low poly at distance to increase performace, or turns off models completely, depending on what the author thinks is best for any given situation)

 

I don't want to say too much myself, not really sure what is a suprise, what will/won't be finished for sure. Probably better for Springheel or NewHorizon to speak on the mod's behalf as far as that goes.

Ehm thinking forward... I don't mean jsut the closest update. They must have some things they planned probably some of them are mentioned by people in many many posts in many many threads. I jsut want to clarify some things and avoid leaving some important stuff behind.

we really don'/t have an update by update checklist. currently there are only about 5-6 active members, so updates depend alot on that and their abilities.

 

typically how it goes:

 

release 1.02

 

talk about what we think is critical for next update (1.03) (things we want done, things players have mentioned, things we feel like doing, condsider the manpower we have)

 

start working.... we eventually get to a point where some says we need to get this out the door...start focusing on really wrapping things up...release, start discussing next update.

 

typically bugs and features that need included are first (ie: we really needed the females, so our AI guy Springheel starts hitting that hard and focusses all his attention on getting them ready along with any other critical or close to ready ai.)

 

It's just too much to plan too far ahead never knowing what our team status will look like from day to day. I was busy working on a bunch of vegetation and a map for 1.03, then broke my wrist, so currently about all I'm doing is one handed typing and forum browsing.

Priorities for v1.04

 

1) Machine Gun weapons. Lord So-and-So won't know what hit him!

2) More day-time decor. Pick-nick blankets, breakfast food, roosters, etc.

3) Slower performance. How will High-End PC users brag about their FPS if everyone plays smoothly?

4) "Silent take-down" button. (in preparation for TDM console edition)

5) 0.0005% brighter grass texture. (Pending 50 more arguments about whether it should only be 0.0004% brighter).

6) AI sexual behaviors (now that there are female AI, why not)

7) Realistic spill-able milk glass. (at least 5 months of scripting and physics hacks, major decision...!)

Like a list of prioritised things we're planning to make for the mod. That list could be discussed and verified by community. Then TDM team would know what we're waiting for to see.

 

I'd say it's better to trust the team makes the right decisions. They've designed, planned and executed everything in the mod very well. I don't think it would be nice to have the community screaming at the team that we demand this and this feature. I've seen pretty idiotic suggestions in the "Things that could be improved" -thread.

 

The community is not a gameplay specialist and most likely will suggest features which could even ruin the mod if they were implemented.

 

Like said earlier, there are only a few people working on this and they have limited time. Having a community list of feature demands could even reduce teams motivation spending their personal free time on these things. Most likely they want to focus on the features they think will improve the mod and what they consider interesting creating.

 

At this stage the mod is pretty well wrapped up, before implementing cockroach AI's etc, it would be more important to fix the remaining bugs.

Nothing would stop you from scouring the forums for "requests and replies" then creating a wiki article just like the "Upcoming Fan Missions" wiki I created. Maybe some team members would see it and chime-in with suggestions and corrections?

Back to topic: The thread Sotha mentioned is the best method atm it seems. Team members are most of the time answering ideas and judging if it´s possible, important or not and so on.

 

Sotha, I hope with "idiotic suggestions" you´re not referring to me, because I posted there very often... :blush:

:laugh: That reminds of such a game for the Super-Nintendo, it was called simply 'SEX' and we kids had the most perverted fantasies about it, but never played it.

edit: I can´t find anything about it, guess some of my friends just made it up...

What? no universal arrows? We could have the player find boxes of "arrow dust", which magically gets transformed into the type of arrow the player tries to use.

Not sure why you feel you need to get imporvments/updates done by a certain time,( do you put timelines on yourselves? or maybe you don't, which is fine, but must feel good when you put out an update and it be reflected in gameplay

 

 

- still amazes me you guys don't get into heated arguments about what to work on etc. We have programmers here at work, during discussion group - they get really angry if what was prioritized was not what they wanted...

      The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

      Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

      i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
      tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
