After 1.03 some FM uncopyable

Hello ,

I have a problem after the upgrade from 1.02 to 1.03.

Some missions suddenly wont start.

The error window says:

Mission installation failed

Could not copy files. Maybe the target files are write protected or you're running out of disk space or lacking the required permissions?

Too Bad

:wacko:what kind of permissions?

I have 250 GB free on the harddisk.

And how were the files "write protected"?

Thanks for your help!

I had this yesterday... but it turned out I was being silly.

Make sure you're not trying to install the mission which is already installed. If it's not that, could you restart your PC and try uninstalling the active mission then installing something else?

It's most likely that something else in the background could be using files in the FM folder or that your doom3 folder is in C:\Program Files\ or similar.

Bad!

Nothing helps.

The installation path on my system is:

D:\Daddel\spiele\Doom3

Inside this folder are all the good single game folders.

Everything seems to be correct!?!

Did you try uninstalling the FMs, deleting their folders in the Doom3 folder by hand, and reinstalling them? I don't know though; I'm just guessing.

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

(/joking) That's not a bug, that's a feature to help protect FM authors from evil "pirates"!

Seriously though, what OS are you using? Someone earlier suggested Linux, but there's no such thing as a D drive in Linux. I use Linux, so I know first hand. On the other hand, if you're using Vista (and I presume 7), you should be aware that they use a "virtual storage" system for your local settings and program data. Long technical description follows...

In the past, anyone could do whatever they felt like on a Windows system. All users could write to the Program Files directory, which meant that software developers took advantage of this when writing their programs. Your game would save states and config files to its original directory, and so would Tom's account who shares the system with you. At some point, they began to focus on security... except they can't just disallow everyone from writing to restricted folders. If they did that, many older programs would break, or have to be run as administrator, which could also be a security risk.

So, in your local settings on a modern Windows system, there is a "virtual store" folder that holds a fake copy of the game's folder, where your changes and saves can be stored. The game thinks it is writing to the original directory, when in fact it isn't. I'm not sure if TDM uses this feature of Windows, but you might want to check for files in your documents folder.

if its windows then dep autolocks files downloaded off the internet, right clicking on them and selecting properties, should present you with the option to unlock it. it be the option this file came from another computer and may be blocked, just click the unblock button to unlock it.

The problem stills.

Have not found any keys to fix the error box. :unsure:

@stumpy: I can only see in "properties" from my pk4-files the "attributes". And there is no setted "write protection". All files are "as they are" (no attribute settings are marked). Or what is what you ment?

greetings

the problems stills also with version 1.04!!

I was on about the security thing at the bottom of the picture.

it sounds like you have a missing file, its probably the fact darkradiant uses a different version of the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable so the game might need it as well but I could be wrong.

good tipp, I try that today.

Nice day...

(might be the following: I bought in germany an english doom3 version through ebay. Perhaps a collision between "german" Visual C++ and "english" game software??)

Thank you :D

OK, I tried to fix the problem - without success.

1. I looked for the C++ version and found:

Microsoft Visual C ++ 2008 Redistrubutable - x86 9.0.30729.4148 was installed

2- I downloaded the 2010 version and have now:

Microsoft Visual C ++ 2010 x86 Redistrubutable - version: 10.0.40219

3. Start the tdmlauncher, select file to install: alchemist

and get the same error box, there is no difference between before and now

In the properties windows I have neither an option for "Advanced" nor "Unblock". I have Windows XP.

:huh::huh::huh:

Uninstallation of Doom3, new installation, tdm new installation - it works. No more error box!!

Thanks a lot,

kind regards !!!:rolleyes:

That's why - we could close this thread.

Thank you all for your thoughts and tipps.

Kind regards from germany

      Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

      tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

      Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

      I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
      Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.
