Readable Editor Crash

Recommended Posts

Hey. DR 1.5.0 is routinely crashing when I try to open a certain readable in the readable editor.

DR also crashes if I try to import the said xdata in the readable editor to another readable.

There is no crash when I open other readables, just this one.

I've written the text in one go in the readable editor and just now when I wanted to make finishing touches to it I observed that it always crashes when the readable editor tries to load the xdata.

My suspicion is that the readable length somehow causes the crash: shorter readables never crash, but this one (11 pages) always crashes.

The readable in question works and is seen ingame just fine.

Looks like I have to make final touches without the readable editor, manually in the xdata file.

If it's a reproducible crash there are good chances that this can be fixed. What exactly are the steps that need to be done and which xdata file can be used for testing?

Maybe STiFU has some time to look into that?

Thanks!

Reproducing steps are simple:

  • Try to import the xdata file I got into the readable editor OR
  • Try to view a readable with the xdata entry in the readable editor

I can send my xdata file containing the text which causes the crash. But since it is a huge spoiler I will only PM it to greebo or Stifu after when it is clear who is going to deal with this. Is this acceptable?

Had a quick peek at the code and I already have some suspicions. If you send me the xdata definition I can look into it tomorrow evening or friday.

Very well! I'll PM it to you once I get home and get the trouble making text cleaved into a separate xdata file. (8-9hrs from now.)

Ok, it is fixed now. The problem was in the parsing code of gui_page-statements. My brain must've been somewhere else when I wrote that piece of code, because it only parsed the last digit instead of the whole number. For example, the "0" would be retrieved when the current statement is "gui_page10". Thanks again for reporting. Let's hope the new release will be soon, so that you can keep writing your readables. ;)

At your service! I'm happy I could assist in squashing this bug and therefore facilitate the further improvement of DR. ;)

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!

I wanna play Doom 3, but fhDoom has much better features than dhewm3, yet fhDoom is old, outdated and probably not supported. Damn!
Makes me think that TDM engine for Doom 3 itself would actually be perfect.
