Fraps Recording--very dark

Anyone know any tricks with FRAPs? For some reason when I record video it's very dark...no detail is picked up from any ambient light at all; anything not well lit is totally black.

Hmm, could be. I wouldn't even know where to adjust my desktop gamma settings, as I would normally just use the monitor settings.

I tried using the gamma setting in post, but I can't get it to do what I want it to do. I may need to play with it more as there are lots of variables, though.

If it's any consolation, if you were making a Thief2 video there's a weird quirk with Fraps that records it on the darkest gamma setting practically blacking out half of it and you always have to bump it back up in post, a tip I got from another guy recording playthrus (FenPhoenix).

Actually now that I look back at your OP, I guess it's probably the same issue. ... In which case the direct answer is this is a known quirk of Fraps that, AFAI & Fen know, we couldn't find a fix in Fraps and did it post. IIRC I asked him how he recorded in the comments of one of his videos and he explained everything including the gamma problem, but hard to find it now. (Edit: I found that video, Episode0 of his 7 Sisters video, but it just has to do with Thief2 & his video card, not really relevant to this.)

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.
