My friend just came back from visiting his family in Finland.

His highlight / anecdote was about jumping into a hole in an ice lake and then running into the black, dark soot of a sauna and waiting for the feeling to return in his legs.

At least his wife didn't get any tick bites this time...

I'm sure it's a lovely and rich culture but I don't think it's for me. :-D

No formulae the text-books know,

Will turn the bullet from your coat,

Or ward the tulwar's downward blow

Strike hard who cares—shoot straight who can—

The odds are on the cheaper man."

Well while we're derailing this thread, I'll continue this train of thought.

In my field, international law, the greatest contribution of Scandinavia and Finland in particular (Koskenniemi et al) of course is this: http://ivr-enc.info/...inavian_Realism

What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you but I know that it's mine.

@Dema: That's cool stuff. It'd be used by Right-Wing pundits to claim Europe is made of moral relavists though  ...

Without Finland, we'd have no Finnish language.

Without the Finnish language, Tolkein would not have been inspired to make Lord of the Rings.

Hail Finland!

"I like Knighton Manor because it's the good ol' house robbery with alternative routes and nice interior."

Well I was going to post something, but the words were just stolen right out of my mouth... lol

I like Knighton Manor because it does present what would be believable scenario in the TDM universe. You're a thief, you have to get this valuable thing in the house, and everything else kind of grows off of that scenario.

I think nbohr1more said it really well in that it takes more of the "sim" route. It makes you feel like you are playing the game rather than the game playing you.

It doesn't have too fancy of a story, but it doesn't really need one. It's relying on more on being believable than dramatic. It's strength is that it feels more like it presents you with a situation and leaves you to deal with it instead of treating you like an actor in a play. It's not really the "best mission ever" by any means, but the focus on the sort of qualities I want to see in more TDM missions.

I think I should also mention that I like missions to be replay-able, and while other missions may be better put together overall not many of them are as replay-able as Knighton Manor.

Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.
