Way to link candles together.

I have a custom chandelier covered with candles. The candles are linked to one light, so if you put out some of them, the light goes out. Problem is, not all the candles go out, so you wind up with some candles lit but no light being shown.

Is there a way to link candles together, so that when one goes out they all do?

Use a single light eneity that targets multiple func_emitters, Ive used this a few tmes.

The only issue is if you fire a water arrow at any of the candles with the func_emitter instead of the chandelier where the light enitity it wont extinguis the candles, so the above trick only works on small chandeliers.

What we need is a a custom version of all of all our chandeliers that have a single light source, func_emitters for each candle and the ability for each emitter tio be extingished while exteinguishing all the other func_emitters.

Try binding the candles to each other.

candle1->candle2->candle3->candle4 ...

I think the on/off code goes up and down the bind chain and performs the same action on parents and children: douse one and they all go out, light one and they all relight.

If that works that will be awesome, could this be applied to a custom version of a chandelier?

Thanks, I'll try that.

Yes. As many candles as you want.

2.02 already has a change that keeps multiple AI from trying to light the same chandelier, and commenting about different doused candles on the same chandelier. In that case, the candles are all children of the chandelier light holder, but linking N candles in a chain should behave the same way.

@Spring, did you test your custom lights with SVN or 2.01?

      Finally got round to publishing a tutorial on baking normal maps in Blender, since most of the ones we have are inaccessible or years out of date.

      The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

      Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

      Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.
