Odd Black object showing in game - screenie

Hey,

 

Images fixed now... u shgould be able to see them

 

I just added a door and am trying to get it to work, and tested it by compiling etc.

 

This is what I find in the doorway instead of the door.

 

I don't know what's causing this given I'm early in the learning process so could

someone shed some light on it?

 

On the first one, there is a path_corner viewers side of invisible door, there's a entity

atm:mover_door_handling_position and a path_wait entity, all around the viewers side

of the door. In radiant, there is nothing in this exact position, except in the case of the

first image, there's a door set to be locked 1, lock_pins 2, and lock_picktype t

The second image is the same thing, but a different doorway that has never had a door put in.

Any hints on how to fix this and bring the door in first pic back? Also why did it disappear? I've seen this twice now.

I'm using the wiki to try to learn how to many any door with handles, and keyéd/lockable/pickable.

No, I definitely Dmapped. Dmapped then map to load it. I always Dmap, otherwise new stuff wouldn't show up.

Those black cubes are what shows up when a func static doesn't have a valid "model" spawnarg. Func statics you've made yourself from worldspawn should have their own name as the model spawnarg. Doors and other model entities should be pointing to a model file. If you placed those doors the normal way by using DR's Create Entity dialog, select one of them and look in the entity inspector ('N') to see whether you've somehow added a "model" spawnarg yourself. Uncheck the option to show inherited spawnargs, and if there's still a "model" spawnarg showing up, delete it then try dmapping again.

You can also put your console output here. I think condump is the command to do this. Add a filename after the command and it will store it in a textfile with that name.

I once had a problem where there was a black box in game and in the editor there was nothing.

 

I solved the problem by going into my map selecting everything, copying it and pasting it into a brand new map and then pressing save as and overwriting my old map file and this solved the problem for me.

 

However before you try this make sure to backup your map file.

 

I tried that as a last resort though as something was glitched in my map.

I think it the 2nd pic is the doorframes which were brushwork, and made into func_statics. The 2nd pic doorframe

is named func_static_22 and has func_static_22 as it's modell.

 

The first pic of the door, the frame is brushwork, and the door has the model models/darkmod/architecture/doors/oversized/mansion_door_02.iwo

 

The way the door was added, was the same as Fidcal uses in his Tutorial. Place Model, select classname, press entity panel button and choose atm:mover_door then the door will open. Then I made it locked, and defined it's picking spawnargs. The door works beautifully.

 

I remember reading that detail brushwork such as skirting boards, cornices etc should be set to func_static to prevent AI having issues with detail

brushwork, is this so?

 

Here's the dump from dmap: family_door1 is the first pic/door]/b] and func_static_22 is the door frame in 2nd pic.

Ok spoiler done... that dump is from after map dmapped, then loaded. So I was in game when I dumped this.

All fixed, somehow you had a 3-4 corrupt entities, I located them in DR then opened up the map in notepad++. I then nuked said entities from there and saved the map, then reloaded in DR to check, then a dmap/map and bingo.

 

Notice the common theme with those entities, its that they had no brush in the entity list.

That got rid of the first one, and I found the 2nd one in the mess door after some

      Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

      i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
      tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

      Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
