Other DDS Texture Software?

So I'm now getting back into adding models into TDM but the referred Compressionator from ATI doesn't work on my system. Is it an absolute must to run the diffuse as a DDS? Sadly I'm not having a lot of luck finding an application to handle this (since DDS seems to be an outdated format).

I may try looking into some of the Photoshop extensions but are there any suggestions?

Yeah I just figured I'd stick with the policy on the wiki for keeping the file sizes down (as I usually do push my texture limits). See the thing is whenever I try and install something with Photoshop it's almost always outdated, and unable to work. I mean sure I can use a tga but that wont be as size friendly.

I use both Compressonator and the nvidia plugin for photoshop CS2, what error are you getting when you try to run compressionator..?

And in answer to the DDS question, its preferable as it reduces the texture size by 2/3 in most cases.

On the dds question, gimpdds still works.

ive tried a few DDS plugins with GIMP and for me that all corrupted the image file, so the DDs didnt display correctly in-game.

paint.net can save files as dds and tga and a few others, plus its free.

I would check the resulting file/s from Paint.net in-game.

You can use these for Photoshop which worked for me pretty well when I created my models bump maps and diffuse dds files! I have an ATI GPU too, so no worries, this will still work :)

It's saying it's failing to find one of the install files, and it does this after I repair or let it use it's own install directory. All I know is it used to work and I'd prefer if it would work.

I can try it but I have my doubts being that I use Photoshop CC 2015 (the pains of using modern software).

EDIT: Oh hey nevermind the Ps plugin you linked me actually works perfectly in the most newest version. I stand corrected. Now you all may rest easy knowing I don't plan to overthrow the texture directories with unnecessary file sizes! B)

Where did you download it from? the link in the wiki I know works as I only corrected it a few weeks ago.

That's the one I downloaded. I think it's something to do with my system, or somehow my particular download was faulty.

That sometimes happens, try downloading with a different browser. What OS are you running?

Just using Chrome, and it's on Windows 7.

Nice to hear you got it working :) I also plan to upgrade to Photoshop CC since I'm still using CS5

Yeah it's solid imo

Mainly just more fancier version but I couldn't see working with anything else after picking up CC a year and a half ago.

The FAQ wiki is almost a proper FAQ now. Probably need to spin-off a bunch of the "remedies" for playing older TDM versions into their own article.

Was checking out old translation packs and decided to fire up TDM 1.07. Rightful Property with sub-20 FPS areas yay! ( same areas run at 180FPS with cranked eye candy on 2.12 )

i am so euphoric to see new FMs keep coming out and I am keen to try it out in my leisure time, then suddenly my PC is spouting a couple of S.M.A.R.T errors...
tbf i cannot afford myself to miss my network emulator image file&progress, important ebooks, hyper-v checkpoint & hyper-v export and the precious thief & TDM gamesaves. Don't fall yourself into & lay your hands on crappy SSD

Does anyone actually use the Normalise button in the Surface inspector? Even after looking at the code I'm not quite sure what it's for.

Turns out my 15th anniversary mission idea has already been done once or twice before! I've been beaten to the punch once again, but I suppose that's to be expected when there's over 170 FMs out there, eh? I'm not complaining though, I love learning new tricks and taking inspiration from past FMs. Best of luck on your own fan missions!
