I tried both the old (that I used to run 3 - 4 months ago) and the latest dark mod versions. It crashes the same way both on my laptop and desktop. I have downloaded darkmod from the official website, and did what they recommended. I also tried Arch User Repository - same behaviour. I am not sure why, but the file I tried ran 3 - 4 months ago. I usually upgrade my systems and the kernel once every week. I also tried running this on my desktop. Both the laptop and desktop (both running Arch Linux, more or less the same kernel, and the desktop with a better hardware). [Also a note, the darkmod release 4 - 5 months old had a problem. I can see the lights, but the ray tracing was not working. Basically everything was mostly dark (the lantern, fire arrows and everything), so I used to play the old version. Please change the following line, in the darkmod.cfg file in your tdm folder seta logFile "0" to seta logFile "2" Safe the config file and start TDM. Tdm will generate a log file named "qconsole.log" in one of the folders in the fm-folder. It didn't create a "qconsole.log" file after the exit. But I see a darkmod.ini file. There is no other log file except the tdm_update.log ... I also tried running tdm with arguments: ./thedarkmod.x64 +map training_mission +glxinfo +condump mylog.txt +quit It didn't create any mylog.txt It always crashes [catches exception] in the same way... (=if that doesnt work, install other video drivers.) And here is a aur for tdm of old version 2.05 32 bit.https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/darkmod/ Please check / install the dependencies. Thirdly I have: 1. openal 2. libxxf86vm 3. libpng All installed. Fourthly, I think this could be something else related to the updated libraries? Because the version 2.06 I had ran 3 - 4 months ago. stgatilov Posted August 11, 2019 Report Posted August 11, 2019 I'm afraid you have to run TDM under gdb. Did you use gdb before? I guess we should incorporate automatic crash dumps in future... Run in console: gdb thedarkmod.x64 When it loads, enter command run and hit Enter. When it crashes, write backtrace and hit Enter. Copy the stuff it prints here. Also, try to run generate-core-file command. If it saves some file, share it please. I'm not very experienced with crashdumps on Linux side, and we have no wiki tutorial on it unfortunately. Quote

The crash happens in R_ParseImageProgram_r in "makeIntensity" case right after recursive call. The whole image being parsed is "makeintensity( lights/squarelight1a)" or "makeintensity( lights/squarelight1a.tga)". The pic is not null, but *pic is null. Some more values: pic = 0x7ffffffdff08, *pic = 0x0 timestamps = 0x5031598, *timestamps = 0 *width = 64, *height = 8, c = 2048 Interestingly, the sizes of the image are correct, so it has found the file and managed to read size 64 x 8. However, *timestamps is zero, so I guess the "if (timestamp == -1)" condition triggers at the end of R_ParseImageProgram_r (right after R_LoadImage call). Perhaps it is some timestamp issue again. @Sourav, could you please share your local file tdm_textures_base01.pk4 from your TDM directory? Quote

This is only for the period of investigation, better remove it back when everything is over. Now start TDM again. Share the new contents of game console, it should contain many lines like: "idFileSystem::OpenFileRead: glprogs/test.vfp (found in 'C:\TheDarkMod\darkmod/')". Quote
